I think my 391.5 hours in Portia would say that yes, it is fun. As is My Time at Sandrock, which is more in depth.

I haven’t had a chance to get super far but I liked what I played and my friends who have gotten far all really love it.

+1 to all My Time at games, also... Dinkum, Littlewood, Roots of Pacha.

The Sims Life Stories
The Sims Pet Stories
The Sims Castaway Stories
They were made on sims 2 engine so they offered as much customization as sims 2 (with limited ammount of objects though), but they had plot (two stories each game). You could also continue playing after finishing whole story (like normal sims game). They are either cheap or pulled from the store due to fact that they are on ancient engine and you need either legacy pc with old windows (like XP or older or you need to tinker quite a lot to made them run on modern system).
The Sims medieval
Made on sims 3 engine (works the best on windows 7). It's still sold on origin so maybe it works on newer windows, no idea though. Also it was pulled from steam, so who knows. It's a little bit different. You menage the country by controling couple of sims with key roles (like knight, bard, mage and so on). You sellect missions and how you end them changes life conditions for whole country (like decreasing ammount oif bandits or reducing health issues).
Sorry for recommending only old games xD

I like vanilla RimWord, if we want to stretch the definition

Stardew Valley of course... especially with all the amazing mods that can always change it up and add hundreds more hours 🙊
• Cattails: Wildwood Story
• Cornucopia
• Cozy Grove
• Palia
• Staxel
• Everafter Falls
• Bear and Breakfast
• Spiritfarer
I haven't played this one but it's in the top of my wishlist, a dino shopkeeping life sim! Amber Isle Sounds perfect for you :)
Others I double recommend that have already been mentioned: Sun Haven, Coral Island, Dinkum, Littlewood, Garden Paws, Wylde Flowers
There's also the popular Doraemon and Story of Seasons series! Or Fields of Mistria and Moonstone Island
I haven't played any of those yet myself though!

Adding Paleo Pines to the already great list. Played it on my gf's account and it's definitely very Stardew but with a nice creature collector add.
Disney Dreamlight Valley has a lot of life sim (and quests) elements but since those mofos went back on making it F2P, they can suck a lemon.

I'm enjoying BugSnax right now. It is a creature collector and cute life sim with some simple puzzles.

Oh, you might check out some of the Rune Factory games. I played through 1 and 2 on handheld, somehow getting thru the first play, and 3 original was looking fun but stopped early mid game. I think they started re-releasing on more platforms

By life simulation I mean games ranging from farms like Stardew Valley, shops like Travelers Rest, or mixes like Dave the Diver. Just managment(?) sims with story, so not for example city skylines or games similar in style.
