I think that the most of us are in a mix of those things. I buy games on steam sales, from g2a, from steamtrades, from Retail shops, etc.

Well priced sales for the most part since my purchases are for more than just Steam games (most recent were Vita and Gameboy Advance games). Seems like an obvious poll choice, but no luck.

As you can't choose multiple answers in the poll i will write it here.
I think lately most games I get are from Humble Bundle (Weekly, sometimes monthly).
Some of those games from the bundles which I don't want myself will be given away, traded or sold.
If there is a game which I would like to get and it has a good discount I will be getting it too. But that's not the case that often lately.
There are some games I will purchase at launch or preorder if I love the franchise and I am sure I will play it as soon as it is available. (Final Fantasy, Tekken and some other Franchises). I think this year it was only Tekken which i preordered with a pretty good discount.
I have not won many games in the last months but that's ok.

TL;DR: Most games are from bundles, after that the discounted ones, won games and smallest amount newly released games

The next games I really care about are in early 2018 and I will purchase at least 1 of them around release. Dragon Ball FighterZ, Final Fantasy XV and Monster Hunter World look all great and probably their price at release will decide which one I will be getting sooner and which one later.

The Little Busters anime does look good and I will maybe watch it. Never played Toejam and Earl but heard about it.

Well I can't buy games from bundles or resellers since my country's banks are banned by them(to be more accurate banned by US gov.), so I just buy them directly from steam and mostly when they are in sales

As a game collector.

  1. Every games below $3 with cards drop.
  2. Every games below $1.5 - $2.
  3. Every 67% - 75% plus sale.
  4. Full price if I really want it.

For me, on that order: Bundles, Tremor Games, Steam sales, Steamgifts, other (promotions, trading, etc...)

Games I really want to play usually don't get bundled, so I buy them on sales.
The rest (good games, or games I would like to try) comes from bundles. A small number comes from trade/buy from other users.
I only ever buy a game at full price once, when I don't know about summer/winter sales. It's for a game that was free (and old version is still legally free to download and play), but I don't regret supporting the developer, since I had a blast playing it (I clocked 120 hours on the save file)

1st tier bundle if I want it, maybe 2nd if I really want something. And then on Steam ~2 years after release when it hits -75% for GOTY.

I try not to buy anything that i'm almost sure i wont play (unless it's a VERY good deal xD). Other than that i buy games from genre that i like + they have good user score (not counting bad reviews caused by tech issues or idiotic PR) + they are on 50%+ sale.

Honestly, these days I practically mainly get my games from humble monthly releases, with the odd game here and there that I buy like the recently released Shadow of War

  1. Humble tier 1, if i'm interested at least in one game, then i trade the others( all games connected in one key sux). Higher tier, if it includes a good game and has dlc's or deluxe content. Don't touch other bundle sites, they sell too much indie and low rated games.
  2. Steam sales. I wait til my game gets -75-80% discount.

Gaming is cheap novadays, if we don't want to play something from the release date. Only multiplayer titles are problematic, when they get big discounts they're almost dead.
