Hello everyone and welcome to another month of fun! 乁( ◔ ౪◔)ㄏ
First, I'd like to thank Skanda for letting me be your host this time!
I hope that y'all are ready for another challenge! This time, with a twist: Prizes!
Because September = Prizes to a participating member, of course! xD

This month's challenge: The legendary quest to defeat the evil Dr.Backlog!

"It's not a quest, if you don't find loot!" -Einstein, Albert.

Therefore, this month, for beating your sg wins, you'll get a chance to find some epic bounty!

Games will be divided into one of the 4 categories below, according to the time one would take to beat them (just main story). Each beaten game will award you points:

Very short games (< 2 hours) = 1 point
Short games (2 - 6 hours) = 3 points
Medium games (7 - 14 hours) = 6 points
Long games (>15 hours) = 10 points

By gathering points you'll unlock the doors to awesome loot! You may unlock them by acquiring the required amount of points in any way you want.
Eg: To unluck door 3, one could simply beat a game like Evoland 2 or get challenged to beat Portal and Solstice. More on that later!

Tiers Points to unlock Giveaways
Door 1 2 One Piece Burning Blood
Door 2 5 Stardrive 2 + This is the Police
Door 3 10 Killing Floor 2 + Serial Cleaner + Pillars of Eternity
Door 4 20 Kona + Orwell + Offworld Trading Company + RiME

TL;DR: Play sg wins --> get points --> achieve a certain amount of points to unlock GAs --> Get loot!
* If you don't have any unplayed sg win left or haven't won a game yet. You could use any unplayed games instead of a SG win. Same rules! This is only for those with no (zero) sg wins left to play! Just because you don't like your sg wins, doesn't mean you shouldn't try them! (¬、¬)

(Optional) The "It's time to du-du-duel!" challenge: Thanks, Wolfedood, for the idea!

If instead of choosing your own games you prefer getting challenged by your fellow SGers, you can have them select a number of games from your unplayed wins and challenge you with them!

Will get twice the normal amount of points for beating a challenge!

Eg: Using the example above - by beating Evoland 2 one would normally get 10 points; however, if someone challenges you to beat said game and you finish it, you'll get 20 points (2x10). If you get challenged to beat Portal and Solstice, you would get 6 (2x3) points for each game - 12 points total.

If you want to get challenged with random games reply to this post and another user will select 3 to 5 games for you to choose which one (or more!) you'll be playing for this month's challenge! (challengers: try to include games of different sizes!)

(Optional) The screenshot challenge:

You may post 1 screenshot per game beaten to earn an extra point for said games!
Eg: Both Portal and Solstice are worth 3 points each. However, if you post a screenshot of each game, you can earn 1 extra point per game! (3+1+3+1=8 points!)

(Optional) The mightiest heroes challenge:

If we reach more than 100 participants, I'll invite the top 10 people with the highest amount of points to earn even more loot!

For it to count the game needs to be beaten/finished. Which means no endless mode/multiplayer etc games. You'll also have to post some kind of proof, that could either be a link to your achievement page or a screenshot of the ending credits.

Don't forget to reply to this thread to participate! (You may edit your post as you beat more games, just don't forget to warn me or you won't unlock the corresponding door!)

You can use this code for easier formatting:

Game | Link | Status
:- | :-: | -:
Game1 | [your achievement page or screenshot of the ending credits](link) | beaten/unfinished/etc
Game2 | [your achievement page or screenshot of the ending credits](link) | beaten/unfinished/etc

Should look like this:

Game Link Status
Game1 your achievement page or screenshot of the ending credits beaten/unfinished/etc
Game2 your achievement page or screenshot of the ending credits beaten/unfinished/etc

FAQ:

"I just wanna play games and post here!" - Please, be my guest! We all would love to read about that! :D
"I already started a game yesterday. Does it count?" - As long as you haven't played more than 25% of it, according to its HLTB time (main story), it's ok!
"I wanna play a game without achievements. How will a prove that I've beaten it?" - By posting a screenshot of the ending credits! ;)
"Can I challenge everybody?" - Please, challenge up to 2 participants. Other people would like to participate as well!"
"I don't wanna participate. Can I still challenge other people?" - Sure! Participating is more than just playing games. It's interacting with your fellow SGers!
"I've already beaten all my sg wins. How can I participate?" - Just find any unplayed games in your backlog and beat it! You may get points according to the rules above!
"I've never won a game here" - Same as above!
"I don't wanna play any of the games that I've been challegend to beat." - It's fine if you're a beautiful, strong and independent SGer who needs no challenges! Just pick your own games to beat and have fun!

How have your game buying habits changed after joining SG?

I'm buying less from Steam because I'm leeching on SteamGifts? :)

In all seriousness though, I rarely, if ever, buy outside of Steam these days. The only other platform I even consider buying from is Origin and that's just because EA stopped putting their games on Steam.

Even prior to joining SG, I've been buying mainly on Steam. Because

  1. most of my friends that I play with with are on Steam (which is probably because my playmates tend to like DOTA lol), and
  2. Steam is the only platform so far that supports my country's currency (PHP).

But I did notice that my rate of buying for Steam increased because I like doing giveaways, but I stopped buying from Steam because the games were region-restricted.

I don't buy more than I used to. I also buy more from Steam key re-sellers than Steam. I don't plan on buying Steam games much anymore now that there are restrictions on gifts as well.

Was already like this before being active here. I use the other platforms only if the game is not available on Steam (or less price cuts, especcially Ubi/EA games).
Would be great if we could do GAs for the other platforms here as well.

I definitely started buying more from steam after joining SG but that pales in comparison with the increase of what I bought for steam (a.k.a. keys from bundles and other stores). But then again before joining steam I mostly pirated games and I found SG in the same year so is hard to say if it was this site that made me buy more or just me going legit and drasticaly changing my buying habits when it comes to video games.
I also wouldn't even have accounts on other platforms if it wasn't for bundles that gave me keys for them.

I still buy from steam a lot, since it really is the easiest way to get a game, unless it happens to be a Blizzard or EA game. Plus all my friends use steam so it makes lobbying and joining friends so much easier.

but a bunch of people here are big spenders.

I guess this includes me :/.

Umm ... I've bought more than I ever should have from both Steam and various 3rd party sites. Steam itself as a store is generally better for me due to regional pricing, though a few games (i.e. AAA games) have custom prices that make it on par with the US. The only time that 3rd party sites can outdo Steam is either through bundles, or unique sales that are unlikely to be repeated on Steam anytime soon (e.g. Activision BYOB on HB).

This was not always the case, for when I first came back to Steam (fall of 2014), the CAD was a lot stronger which made 3rd party sites much more appealing. This is the main reason why my GoG library is as large as it is, for I bought the bulk of my games on that platform during this time. Now I get the occasional retro game that is not on Steam, but it has been months since my last purchase.

I tend not to buy games from other platforms since I prefer not to split my library as much as possible. Unless it is an exclusive to that particular platform (e.g. retro on GoG), I don't bother buying it even when it is a bit cheaper than a Steam copy. I like to keep everything in a single place and Steam just happens to be the largest of the bunch.

I also know that we're STEAMgifts, but would you like to have the option to create GAs for gog, uplay, origin or b.net games?

More options are always welcomed but I'm probably too invested into Steam to ever care about an alternative.

Do feel like we could help fight against Steam's Monopoly if we were given the choice above?

Of course. The only constant in life is change. Steam will lose its monopoly one day; it is only a matter of when.

it is only a matter of when.

hypothetical:
origin announces region free gifting to inventory & email and expands their market to include all developers & publishers who agree to their terms.

tables would turn. ^^

It would be very insteresting to see any of steam's competitors try that approach. I'd love to see Steam having to improve their scheme or reverse some terrible changes in the last years because of other platforms.

After I joined SG when I wasn't region locked I still created several giveaways for gifts bought from Steam store of course.
After being region locked for each purchase, the number of gifts bought or bought to create giveaways decreased severely.
Now they region locked it further with the price lock and without the inventory gifting system I'll probably buy zero gifts.

As to games for myself I mostly or only buy games during sales, so I still buy a good number of games for myself on Steam, but always on the cheap. But the majority (# of games) of my library comes from bundles or other deals.

I buy way more games since I have joined steamgifts. I have also gog, origin, battle.net and uplay, but use them mostly for "exclusives".

Interestingly, my time on SteamGifts made me realise that I really should distance myself from Steam, and now I am mostly buying stuff on Humble and GOG.

I started actively using Steam after finding out the bundles, using SG didn't really change on it besides being more aware of bundles I bought quite some games for GOG, but exactly 0 on Uplay, Origin or battle.net as I get most of my games from bundles or third-party resellers, Steam store itself is not a priority for me.

I mostly buy from HB and then Steam during sales, but with the latest developments, I'm now actively watching out for sales in Uplay, Origin, and GoG. GAs for Origin and Ubisoft games would be very much appreciated too, especially since Mass Effect: Andromeda isn't likely to get to Steam. -_-

Actually SG made me buy way less games each day. Because i started to realize i don't like collecting games i just want to play them. So i made a rule if i don't finish 2 games i won't buy a new game unless i want it really bad. There isn't much games that i want really bad so i am keeping up with it for now.

Also i would be stuck with steam for while because of regional pricing. It helps a lot.

I do indeed buy more Steam games after joining Steamgifts than before, but then again I joined about a month after I started using Steam so there's that. I've never bought anything on other (PC) platforms, except a few games (exclusives) on GOG, so yeah, I'm definetly 'helping' the monopoly. And also use my PS2 or play some SNES/PS1/GameCube games whenever I feel I poured too much of my soul into GabeN's Big Bag of Wonders also known as Steam.

Well, before SG I was mostly pirating, sometimes buying boxed editions (that's how I accidentally got steam, but intially I didn't use it much). After I got on sg I found out about bundles, steam sales etc. and for some time I had buying and winning fever. After I acquired more games than I had time to play, I kinda stopped (I still sometimes win something). Nowadays I prefer buying on gog and I'd love if there was SG equivalent with gog games.

Before SG I wasn't buying much from Steam.
But after Valve's latest screwup I'll probably stop buying from Steam.

I started to use Steam a lot shortly after discovering it - I found it terribly convenient and with loads of great deals through Steam sales and bundle sites. But as somebody with a spare bedroom full of console games I'm also somebody who could probably just about cope without it. Recent changes have disappointed me and are going to affect my buying but won't cause me to abandon Steam. I worry that this might be the first stage of a crackdown on keys, bundle sites and official resellers and if that were to happen I'd shift to GOG, etc as a matter of principal - and I'd hope other people would also do that rather than chow down on that shit.

I only used Steam. But it wasn't until I started using SG that I found out about bundles. Or at least around that time. :p
