Disappointed ?
Well, I guess that Civ 6 glitch was just too much. Maybe an indication that they couldn't undo what was done.

Didn't help that they did forced refunds before talking to 2K about the issue. My guess is that 2K didn't want to kill the keys for whatever reason and GR was forced to take the full cost of the issue.

That is what I was thinking. Also, the store was probably never very profitable. And to make it even worse they gave out 25% off codes to the people they refunded.

Yup. This has panic written all over it :/. Hopefully this doesn't affect the studio (it shouldn't since they are technically two separate corporate beings) since they make some pretty good games. It seems that they were ill prepared to deal with the issues that comes with owning a storefront.

I actually asked them why the Civ 6 keys still haven't got revoked today and here is their response:
Hello ...,
Thank you for contacting us.
Revoking the keys is the procedure which is taken care of entirely by 2K Games. We don't have any new information regarding this matter, so it's possible they need more time to revoke the keys or, possibly, keys won't be revoked after all.
I'll let you know if we receive any update about this situation.
Best regards,
...

So essentially they acted first before knowing what was gonna happen. Maybe 2K will give us a Christmas present and let us keep the keys? /shrug
This whole matter is just one big mess :/.

Such a terrible business decision on their part, refunding before revoking definitely will have contributed majorly to the death of the company.
They handled the enitely thing awfully, first of all they panicked and refunded along with a poor statement on Reddit. Then they retracted that statement when it was met with heavy criticism. Then it turns out they hadn't even discussed the issue with 2k....
I don't like seeing alternative store fronts go out of business, but if they'd taken the initial hit they would have come out looking like a decent company and it would have been huge advertising for them. Maybe they couldn't take the initial hit though, who knows. Now though, they're in a position where they have given thousands of Civ 6 keys out for free, not for heavy discount, for free!
I have sympathy its killed them, but on the other hand, the way they handled the entire situation was poor and mismanaged enough that I probably wouldn't have used them again.

Nobody broke them however, it was a glitch and therefore an error in their store, and people simply exploited made hay while the sun shines, or managed to grab the game at a discount rate they knew would otherwise not be given anytime soon. (I'm not saying that what happened was just but I can hardly blame the consumers for a slip-up by the company)

Personally, I only purchased Civ 6 from there... So don't faze me! Tbh they were silly the way they handed out refunds before trying to revoke keys.

They haven't been revoked even though refunds were issued.

:(... when store got rob, they need to pay loss margin, are you happy now?...

If they do close, I wonder if I will still get my Keys for my Beat Cop and Tower 57 pre-orders...

shop has no ability to revoke keys. Only developer/publisher (in this case 2K) can revoke keys. All shop can do is to send publisher list of keys and ask them to revoke but whether they do or not is up to publisher. Revoking tens or possibly hundreds of codes could be really bad PR for 2K - people would blame them instead of shop that had a bug. In such circumstances publisher may decide to not take a PR hit and demand reseller shop to pay agreed value for keys from their own pocket.

Wondering if I should buy the DLC for TWoM on Steam now or wait.
Comment has been collapsed.
as it is not preorder but already finished DLC I don't see why you should not - even if dev goes bancrupt as well it's not like you were preordering or buying early access - since prodyuct is already finished and it's not online game that would require outside servers etc from customer perspective it doesn't matter for you if they survive or not.
I'd even say it's better to buy it now if you want to, because if whole company goes down they may pull their games out of Steam.

The storefront and the game studio were made to be independent of each other. Unless 11bit is forced to take on GR's debt, this shouldn't affect them and their games should be safe for the time being.

I would wait for at least the winter sale. The studio and website are independent of each other so this shouldn't affect their games on Steam.

Wonder who will be the next store to close down now.
Comment has been collapsed.
Are there any definite info whether their games are also getting pulled out from Steam? Or is it only their store that is closing down?
Comment has been collapsed.
Probably only the store (for now) depends how bad they're doing financially.

I really hope so, because This War of Mine is really a great game. Sad to see it being pulled from Steam.

It would probably get purchased by another company for a low price should they go bankrupt and close down, like Nordic games did with THQ.
And it's likely to happen if they lost a lot of money from the Civilization price mistake few weeks ago.

That would seem likely, yes. Speaking of the Civ VI fiasco, has the key been revoked yet?

Good reason, why i don't like (random) DRM free sites. (Steam etc. including, but that's a other thing.)

hmm...seems that we are still in their mailing list, but our old accounts do not exist anymore, right?
Just asking, because I can't log in with my old account...
