This change is for every user of paypal

So i saw this the other day: PayPal Policy Updates
Looks like PayPal updated their fees for everyone like they did with Canadians 5 months ago: SG thread
This will be a heavy hit for groupbuys that rely on PayPal and not on SteamWallet, CSGO Keys, Gems or other alternative methods.

What do you think it will happen to GroupBuys?
Any good alternative to paypal? Do you use google wallet or venmo? How about Amazon Pay?

Do you group buy?

View Results
Yes, always (all of them)
Yes, frequently (most of them)
Sometimes or rarely (one bundle now and then)
Never

So I checked the new rules in my country and it seems that EUR and SEK payments (f&f transfers) within EU countries will be treated as local, so no fees.

Can you link that? As they have North-Europe, Europe I, Europe II (i.e. all of EU) listed as border-crossing in an EU country's TOS, so it doesn't seem to be exempt.

"Note: Cross Border Euro or Swedish Krona payments made between Accounts registered in the European Union or EEA will be treated as Domestic Payments for the purpose of applying Fees."

Example from Belgium: https://www.paypal.com/be/webapps/mpp/ua/upcoming-policies-full?locale.x=en_BE

(Siehe: https://www.paypal.com/de/webapps/mpp/ua/useragreement-full)

Edit:

Und hier steht nicht, dass sich daran was ändern wird

Ah the full version has it,
The changes-page doesn't include that important part in the ger variant but has it written in the Belgian one

Yes it seems like they focused on pointing out the part, that it is just for free if you pay in EUR or SEK and use a bank account or existing value. So in case one just take part in group buys from the EU (+exceptions) in EUR/SEK, there shouldn't be any change to the current situation.

I think the moral of the story is.. live in the United States.
Is it not possible to just.. tell paypal you live in the US? Pick any mcdonalds as your address lol

well, no
If you live in the US and send money to EU you will pay the fee for border-crossing payments
As for address, i think you will need a credit/debit card/bank account within US if you want to confirm your account

Just asking....but can it be that there is some new us law which forces paypal to do so?
Get from different Sites/Companys in the last days Mails about their Mailinglist that if you still want to be receive ones click here as something changed.
But maybe it is just a big coincidence that both things happen in the same timeframe...

Maybe they can form a smaller group of trusted people where they purchase constantly and pay less times each other than before.

paying with EUR within EU still wont have any fee for F&F so blame BREXIt instead.

Seems I need to find an EU-groupbuyer for any future transactions.

But this is just bullshit and I hope it harms Paypal a lot. Who would pay 5 bucks to send money? That's insane.
According to the Dutch document it's 2 euro Europe-VS but that's still quite the sum if the transaction is usually around a dollar.

Interesting change in a time, where other payment methods show up as real competitors. Seems like suicide?

Yep, I am Canadian and this change was applied to us October 10, 2017. I stopped collecting bundles because of it, I just buy the rare bundle I with games I will play.
It's sad to see them apply this to USA also. I guess only thing we can do is either tank the free and send someone like $30 and have credit with them, or find a new payment website.

Personally I would be okay with just a 2.9% fee, as it won't hurt people sending $1-5 for a bundle split or leftover games, but $2.99 fee completely kills it.
