It is indeed wonderful, but then again its only going to be wonderful for the people that are winning. People are going to complain.

The big deal is that many of these people also already own the games. People have already been winning Multiple times.
It's okay to win Multiple times. But 4 times? 3 times a week? sometimes a /day/? There kinda needs to be some sort of control.
As someone who's given away 3 items already here, I'd personally prefer if my gifts went to someone who A.) Didn't own the games already. B.) Hadn't won much of anything in recent (up to a week.) memory.
It's all about spreading the love around. While the system most certainly isn't rigged, there does need to be some fixes in place. No one wants to go to a site about giving and winning things where they see someone win 4 things in two days while they can't even win a 25 person pool for Half Life 2, for example.

This is the exact reason why people like BlueLegion ruin it. When people are winning five times when a majority of people haven't even won once (myself won once and I am grateful for that), it becomes unappealing. If people keep winning games they already own or 5x the amount of games most people have, it's going to make people reconsider this site and not even want to try and take their chances either with r/playitforward, r/favors, or r/gameswap

Its not like CG isn't trying, he is. If you have proposed mechanisms that seem fair then propose them. The thing is that the measures some people want run counter-intuitively with his own principles. Some are outright attacking those who win multiple times and get lucky.
But yes, I do agree there should be a limit on how many times you can win a week. But what if you just get outrageously lucky? I happen to only go for 3 giveaways and I win 3 giveaways. Is it me being a greedy slimy bastard or is it me just getting super lucky? (Albeit these people who have won multiple games aren't really in this kind of boat.)

I don't think it's the winners' awesome amount of luck that's getting people upset. It's that some of them have won games they already own and their argument of wanting to gift them to friends or whatever is utter bullshit. The giveaways are supposed to be for members only, which is why this site is invite-based. Otherwise, we might as well just give all the games to one user and let him spread them amongst his friends.
cg might want to check whatever random function it is he's using because it might not really be working on too large of a number set. Maybe it actually only goes from 1-10 and that's why people like BlueLegion, who entered giveaways amongst the first users, are winning so many giveaways. Just a theory... might want to look into it.

to me the outcome of the giveaways looks pretty normal. Judging by the amount of users that enter contests and the amount of gifts. It's pretty normal numbers to have some ppl receive multiple games. Even with 4+ wins. Random works well and ofcourse there's some ppl with more luck as others ^^
Everybody wants some luck with such awesome games been giving away by the generous giftee's :)

This is correct. I rarely enter, and when I do, I don't really get my hopes up. When I saw someone else won Titan Quest Gold, this was my reaction verbatim:
Me: Well, shoot.
Me: ::opens up a game to play::
and I don't let it bother me. It's really not worth it to get all hot and bothered because someone else won what you were vying for.

I agree, but only a handful of people have actually won more than once. And the fact that they already own the games is bad, but not what I'm talking about.
I think you guys are making a big deal out of something small, since it's not like people are consistently winning giveaways. Some people have won up to 5 times, but that is a very small amount compared to the entirety of users on this website. Of course the games should be spread out, but at the same time, the random chance method is fair IMO.

You are actually the reason I made this topic. You've already won a game, which is more than I, or a majority of this website, can say. Why the hell are you complaining? Because you can't win TWICE like the other handful of people?
If you seriously think this website is rigged, then please, leave.

It's not winning more than once, it's winning games you already own. Get your s##t straight son.

No matter what we say policy is, people complain. People don't want others getting things they have, others feel is it perfectly OK to do whatever because they are using their points how they see fit. Keep in mind we are trying to keep everyone happy, and fair to the community. I've been answering extremely irate messages all day regarding every position you could imagine.

I never said I tolerated people winning games they already own. How are they the same issue?

They're not, but only one is a real problem. Winning more than once is fair since it's statistically possible. Winning games which you already own doesn't really go under the category 'Play it Foward' ;)
EDIT: Damn, I'm tired. You're right, it's not what this thread is about.

Well, it sometimes can't be helped in this early stage. With so many of the same game submitted into giveaways, its understandable that some people would enter one game multiple times in order to increase their chances of winning a game that they really want. Until there is a mechanic built in that removes a person from the other submissions of the same game after they've won, this may happen, and fairly so. With the point system in place, they are using their points to enter into the game, if they enter into a game that they already have or will end up winning in another giveaway, by the rules and statistics, they have just as much right to that game as you do.
Its like getting made at some body for buying the last two apple pies at McDonald's...they used their money(points in this case), I'm sorry they happened to get it before you.
If you really, truly wanted that game, you can go buy it. Quit complaining.

If you'd do some investigation, you may realize that enjoyslongwalks resubmitted the 2 extra games of Portal that he'd won in the way that I'd described in my last post (re-read it, go ahead, I'll wait)...
And BlueLegion did enter and win two games that he already owned, but he sent them to his friends who weren't fortunate enough to get into this little community, therefore they could not enter for themselves. This was before the invite system was initiated.

What I am saying, is that when I make a contest and specify in the description that only people who don't have the game can enter, the people who enter should not have the game. It's that simple.
Sure, I wouldn't send out my gift to somebody if they already had the game, but then I'd have to go through a bit of a hassle, instead of giving to someone who didn't have it, and wanted it, right in the first place.
I don't really get the "give it to a friend" argument, because the site at this point in time, before it goes completely public, is invite only. Yes, the games end up in new hands eventually, but I'd rather have it go to somebody who doesn't have it, wants it, and is an active member here.

I'm with you on this OP. Some people here make it seem like free game must be basic human right or something that they are entitled to get.
I also feel that calling out people for being lucky is very childish and petty. Please stop that kind of personal attack. It is not their fault if the site choose them as winners more than one time.
This somewhat remind me when people complained about AI cheating in Puzzle Quest and they refused to believe developers that all gems are created randomly.

100% agree with you FaultyWiring because people here are just too greedy around man, members should be SUPER GRATEFUL THESE GENEROUS PEOPLE ARE ALREADY DONATING... NO ONE F*** CARES IF YOU WIN WHY!? because if you win your just a selfish heartless person everyone should be bowing around here saying so much thx to these super awesome people.
I myself entered for games I only wanted to much, un-like other people who entered 100+ giveaways, 20+ giveaways or even 10+ giveaways, Nevertheless the members here don't even care i bet, all they care about are just freaking games games and games, The least people could do is just say thx not a Begging; face all around to all the people who've donated.
If you want games that you truly want WAIT THE F*** FOR IT!!! As what the great person once said
"Patience is a virtue..."
Although, I realize now that all those heartless selfish people ( YEAH I'M POINTING AT YOU GUYS! .I. ) won't even care about this message or even to anyone else as long as they win something and just disregard that game in their library.
Good Day...

It should be expected that a small amount of people will win more than once. What's the big deal?
This site is NOT rigged, and I feel like those complaining on the forums feel entitled to free games.
The winner is chosen by random chance, and it is not impossible for users to win several times. It's not even highly improbable.
I will conclude that this site's community is wonderful, but those who complain are not helping.
