You want a survival film? Watch Touching the Void. True story. Alternatively, 127 Hours. Again, true story.

Last Man on Earth, the better interpretation of the I Am Legend short story. And considering Romero based his zombies off the short story it's well worth it.

The Road is great post-apoc survival (not zombies). The Horde (french film) is a good zombies film.

I fucking love the original Dawn of the Dead but the remake is really good too. If you like zombies just check out some of the stuff George A. Romero did. I would also recommend zombieland, it's more of a comedy though, but the main character goes over his list of important survival tips during the movie so I guess that would work for you.
