No. Says you can play the game without VR as well :)

From twitter it looks like it unlocks the whole game content in the demo so you dont actually get the game added to your library. https://twitter.com/TouringKarts/status/1202629290484994048

Winning 3 races validates the first half, win 5 to validate the latter

Heya, I posted the official comment for others who might be like me. I was slightly confused as OP only mentioned it unlocked the full game while you elaborated that it would stay as a demo and not added to the library.
So I posted the official comment that I felt cleared my doubts the best. The extra key the OP mentioned could be given to a friend but also used by ourselves to add it to the library, because like you said, the demo stays a demo unless you use a key.

F yeah, that´s my kind of giveaway!
I did some hours hotlapping each day when simbin gave away Retro DLC keys through their 1st raceroom iteration (which was a ad-ridden mess with only 1car & 1circuit) ..... or was it screenshotcontests? Anyway, thx for the heads-up, will be seeing destroying you on the track! :-)
edit: Forget what i said, game ain´t worth it. Just put an hour in, came close to 3rd win twice ... and then it felt as if rigged against me.
Also can´t tell if it counts wins against AI (MP is still very empty), and once you get to play against humans, it´s a fuckfest lacking all the finesse that makes Sonic & All Star Racing fun.

For me the demo doesn't show up on the games steam page, and when I search
for the demo and click on it, it sends me to the actual game store page.
Workaround to install the demo:
Click the install button on the top right here:

How hard is it to achieve 5 wins in a row? Expect it to not be easy, as it's online with others trying to win 5 in a row also.

if there is no matchmaking and is by select host, we can play against each other to fulfill the requirement.

I'm curious, if this user will be banned, if he can't reasonably explain this? Do we have any provision in Guidelines, to deal with peddling stolen wares? And is it covered in the Proposed Guidelines? Though, Steam itself should take care of this.

He is a developer, not a "culprit". Any developer needs to contact SG support to get this role.

You don't need to be a developer to get this role. Anyone can request it. The only thing it does is give you unlimited giveaway slots, so those with access to big bulk of keys (usually devs, publishers or promoters) can make mass giveaways fast.

You could request developer role, but you have to prove that you are a developer. I think it is impossible to get this role without a steam account with developer status.

I thought they might be part of the dev team since they have a dev account on SG, which very well may be the case. If not a dev, the person giving away the keys might of traded for them or purchased them from a grey market site and not of been aware of the situation with the promo being hacked.
PSA: We have removed the ability to create giveaways for this game when I was alerted to the situation since there is obviously a problem and the keys are being revoked.

If someone has 1000 hacked keys, he would probably sell it on G2A or other site to make a profit. There are no reason for him to give away those keys.
But I hope that now all those stolen keys are revoked and useless.

Okay so this is kind of confusing..
From their twitter..

Are you sure you're reading it from the right Twitter account? It says differently than what you're quoting: https://twitter.com/TouringKarts/status/1202522867465887745

can't install the demo version. demo page looks like full game page with price and everything else.

Look at the right column on the page, it should have a "download demo" button, right above the categories (singleplayer, and so on).
Or run this on browser: steam://install/1201070

Thank you. I installed and played the first til it bugs so hard that forced me to Alt+F4. Never again...

Demo download is on the right side of the screen, the button is pretty confusing to find.

The context of this comment "I'd take a key if ya happen by an extra, friend." (which I feel obligated to delete for fear of being prosecuted twice for the same crime) for which I was banned for. Felt innocent at the time, before all the (support) comments in this thread were edited and such. It had been given a tone that folks had 50, and from what I recall of the comment 1000's of keys, and that all giveaways on this site for it were now blocked. So those keys would no longer have a home as well as any extra free friend keys that this developers giveaway would potentiality create. In the spirit of when I posted my comment I didn't think it was in bad spirit. but when you edit out everything that made me think my comment was okay. My comment doesn't appear as okay. Wish I'd been given an opportunity to adjust my thoughts after the landscape changed. I will of course not "beg or soliciting" in the future. Which I have explained how I apparently crossed the line here. Having read the rules in the past I didn't feel that in the context of what was that I'd begged, & every definition I've read of soliciting, is sex for money which is a disgusting insult to anyone that doesn't think that their orifices are a piggy bank.

Managed to get the 5 wins in a row! Let me say a few things:
1) using a controller is a must. Keyboard handling is just terrible;
2) at start press to accelerate only when the GO appears to gain a small initial boost (you don't say? can't think of a arcade racing where this isn't a thing);
3) if you want to win a race you must get first place within the first lap, otherwise you will be stuck in the mess of powerups and random crashes that happens in the back (even against npc there is literally no way to catch up after the initial start - except for the, as I call it, hackboost which allows you to skip part of the circuit and gain positions, but I couldn't understand how it spawns);
4) spam all power ups you can to get the lead! And take all the boosts and jumps (midair controls are upper edge);
5) upgrade your car! In the garage you can spend money to upgrade the performance! (or buy different cars, each is different at handling);
Overall, I would say it isn't worth the grind. It has a quite a number of bugs and the multiplayer lags, so expect to play against a frustrating experience. In VR however it becomes a fun game.
EDIT; I don't know if it works honestly but it came to my mind that maybe ALT+F5 when losing should keep your streak (I had the game crash at some point and when I restarted it was as if I didn't start the race at all).

According to official Twitter you have to compete online in the Steam Demo and by winning 3 races in a row you will unlock the full game ! Also, if you win 5 races in a row you will get an extra free Steam key for a friend. Valid until Dec. 22nd.
Edit: What a mess! Why did I ever start this topic, lol? Though I believe, that it's their Twitter announcement that is misleading. An who could expect, that the giveaway will get hacked
Winning 3 races in a row should unlock the full game inside the demo version (there is no difference in content). If you want a complete new key (paid version) for free you must win 5 races in a row and contact devs by e-mail. Then the extra key can be given to a friend, but also used by yourselves to get +1 for the game. (Thanks to xitau and Spudette)
Because the initial giveaway has been hacked, keys stolen and then revoked (thanks, madjoki), currently to get the extra key you need to send an e-mail to devs after winning the 5 races in a row.
