Only if you overclock or the current one is really insufficient...

^ This. If you find your cpu is running very hot, make sure the heat sink is dust free before you just go buy a new one.

oh ok thx
and btw, overclocking the processor won't make it spend more energy?

it will

Depends...

Usually you have to raise the voltage, which means more energy spend... Though in some cases you can run on same voltage and not use more...

Or that your fan is rotating....

But quality sink is still nice, 80C max load passively...

Hey I have a question regarding processors: Are there quad core processors that use AM2 socket?

edit: yes the first phenom x4 9xxx

http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/TYPE-Phenom%20X4.html but they have a lot of problems

I have a Gigabyte M52L-S3

Is there any difference between AM2+ and AM2?

AM2+ sockets can accept AM3 CPUs.

The way AMD does their board and CPU updates is that each CPU can fit into two different socket types, and each socket type can fit two generations of processors. It really gives AMD users more upgrade paths. You can often upgrade your motherboard to something that can use newer CPUs without losing the ability to use your current CPU while you save up or wait for a sale on the CPU you really want.

http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=2818 . I wrote it wrong. Your Mb also supports those a little more recent, but you have once update the bios, and it is not very easy for someone who does not understand

Thanks. I have never changed only my CPU so I will probably take it to some people that know how to do it.

check well, however, on the list that the CPU is supported. Usually I do not recommend putting these cpu in old motherboards, better to aim for something a little more recent, also used, type motherboard cpu and ram
