There's a lot of people who were waiting for the promised Linux port, they made an announcement promising it to come 100% in 2014, in the meantime they changed it to 2015, but last time I checked it was 2016 and there's still no result. Black Forest Games shouldn't get any money from anyone who doesn't want to be scammed. Let me know if you bought the game (or other games) and didn't get what you were promised. Scam Alert! Black Forest Games just wanted the money!
Are you kidding me, how are they getting away with this??? It's a SCAM!!!

1 - Your poll sucks.
2 - They admitted outsourcing this, which means they could just as easily have been cheated by the company that should have been doing the work.

Edit - Reading through the topic, looks like I was right with 2.

There is still nothing stopping them from making an announcement that will let any future buyers know that linux version is not on the cards. If they still keep pretending to be working on the release, and they have no intention of delivering on the promise, then that is really their own fault.

1 - Or they are still trying to get something done about a Linux version. Granted, they should give updates, but this issue doesn't deserve a topic with two poll options, and topic text, all saying nothing more than "They be scamming us!"

2 - They have relied on other companies to port their games, such as BitComposer for the PS3 and XBox 360 release of this game, and Kasaa Solution to develop the PC version of the 2D reboot originally on DS.

After they admitted outsourcing (that might be another lie), they also said it will be ported in house!! That's when they changed it to "100% coming in 2015".
I agree the poll sucks though :)

  1. Yes they got scammed by the company they outsourced to.
  2. They refused to admit to themselves they got scammed.
  3. They tried to still get the port from the scammers instead of doing it themselves our having yet another company do it. (I'm sure some people are still waiting for that inheritance from Nigeria too...)
  4. They neglected to tell all the people waiting for the port that it will never happen due to getting scammed. (and some naive people still are waiting...)

To be fair, you really shouldn't be paying them money before they have a product they can sell.
Its similar to all those kickstarter projects where they pitch an idea, but it never comes to fruition.

Also, there is no need to bag an entire nation just because one developer lied.
That said, they really should have kept their promises, or at the very least made an announcement stating that linux version will not be coming.
I hope you can play this on wine or have a Windows PC to play it on.

I too paid money for this, but this was to company who taught me the important lesson to never buy a game only on the promise of a Linux port. Don't buy it until it's there.

Unfortunately, it's not very playable on wine. It works for some levels, but then you reach a level where every thing gets slow stutters and eventually freezes and it become unplayable.

Will never buy anything from BFG ever again. unless the first release this port.

They're claiming a communication issue, which probably really means funding or incompetence within the outsourced studio. Porting can take a long time if the game engine is homegrown, which I'm going to assume since they don't have an engine listed in the trademark section. It shouldn't take 2 years, so it sounds more like the studio did a crap job and they sent it back demanding something better. It doesn't mean they scammed you; they just have useless management.

It was the same person making this promise, and the story is the same.

I learned my lesson with Arrowhead Game Studios. I bought Gauntlet to play on Linux but they closed development without releasing a Tux version.
I got so angry with that! I won't buy more games from them. Since then, I only buy a game with a Linux logo on store page.

And thanks, I'll put this Black Forest Games on my blacklist too!

I like companies like Phoenix Online Studios, which are releasing new games for Linux and trying to port older games. They respect Linux users.

Well, sorry but whoever buys a product because there may be a Linux version coming in the future is simply stupid.
You don't buy promises however well intended. You buy it when it's available and proven to work.
Poll is crap, too.

I wanted to support game creators who are willing to go to a new market (Linux).

Yeah, I can understand that. But early access etc. is just gambling with your money. There are no guarantees. Shit happens, companies go bankrupt etc.

Not everything is a scam. Often things are just delayed, mismanaged, held back to be done right. Language is crucial and what impoverished we speak these days.
