It looks like a train wreck... and not the good kind, either.
I'm talking national tragedy, that's what this "mouse" is.

Well what in the bloody sam-hill is it supposed to be?!?!?! My mind cannot comprehend just what I have seen in that pic.

I'd recommend just sticking with a keyboard. There is no advantage to getting gimmicky devices like that, especially if you happen to have a claw-grip. Your thumb in particular will scream at you after any extended game session using that... weird d-pad on the side? Also while the number of keys should be sufficient for most FPS, if you ever venture outside that genre you're pretty much fucked for input.

And yet key profile switching just makes using the thing needlessly complicated compared to using a traditional keyboard. "Oh I'm playing Skyrim. Moving around, oh wait, I need to check my inventory, oh wait I need to save/load my game." And at the end of it all you'll still need to switch to your regular keyboard.
As I said, there's still no discrete advantage to using this over, say, a keyboard with extra programmable keys.

I also have to add, I'm on my third Razer Onza, had to file warranty claims on the other two, they don't use quality parts. Aside from loosening sticks, my original 360 controller is in better shape than my newest Onza. Don't think I'd put my faith into any weird peripherals like that from them.

My chief complaint in every controller has been failing sticks. I'll be trying to do gentle left/right movements to look around, and they start stuttering downward randomly, which obviously made playing nearly impossible. I've also had issues with the triggers not registering presses, or doing the opposite and registering multiple presses when I only pulled it once. Also a much smaller complaint, but the rubber on the sticks wears off insanely quickly, already down to basically just plastic. I love the programmable buttons, and since I had the TE, the tension control on the sticks, as well as the mouse-like buttons for ABXY. I just wish they would use better components overall, considering the prices they ask for the controllers. It really bums me out to have to warn people about the Onza, because initially I was recommending them to everyone whom I played with. I was really hoping it was just me having bad luck, but after three in a row, it makes you start to wonder.

I have the previous model, when it was made by Belkin (the n92). I won't play FPSs with anything else. The grip size can be moved on that one at least, so it's easier to get comfortable.
I'd recommend trying it out first rather than getting one simply 'cos it looks cool. Don't listen to the nay-sayers here either. Try it for yourself then decide.

I have the nostromo but I would instead recommend the razer orbweaver which is much more comfortable and uses mechanical keys instead of membranes. Unless you are using a laptop to game, there is no real benefit to using one for FPS. Starcraft II would work great with this.

I've looked at the Orbweaver which is a similar concept. If the dpad were an analog stick I think it would be a better input device. I think people in this thread are assuming this is a replacement for the mouse which it's not. The intention is to replace the keyboard where most of the keys are unnecessary. My big issue is that the keyboard's only real downside is a lack of analogue input for precision. unfortunately these devices don't solve that issue either so I see no real purpose in them.

Get a Logitech G13 instead. I've had mine for more than a year now, and it is probably one of the best buys I ever made.

I used to play competitive FPS years ago using a Belkin Nostromo which is exactly the same just it got bought by Razer. Once I got my good key-setup and got used to it I couldn't play without it. Lots of people here seem to speak from seeing the picture but have never even tried one, you make it what you want. I was playing 'wasd' style but with all the possible key-binds I could need right there, the D-Pad was my way of switching the key-binds (multiple configs for all keys) no need to look at it to find a key as you can program it to your own taste and even create macros (multiple key sequence binds).
Only you know if that's something you would enjoy playing with.. no one can really tell ya. You should find a shop near your place that has em so you can actually get a feel of it.
