I vote we all just repost and re-bump these "coming soon freebie" spam promotional threads until support actually bans them.

I filter the deals category by new posts, so posting it before the deal goes live actually just guarantees that I don't see it when it's actually live Plus, when the game is going to be free for several days, there's no chance of anyone missing out. It's literally just sending extra traffic to the dev's store page. In other words, Spam.

It's not hard to wait until the deal is actually live instead of flooding the forum with deals that won't be live for days or in the case of that one post, weeks. The usefulness of these early posts is highly questionable. If a dev was promoting their own freebie this early, support would ban it for spam in a heartbeat.

Dude seriously? It's very hard for you to adapt when the world doesn't want to conform to your sensibilities? Just make a note in your calendar with a reminder if you're afraid you're going to miss out

Did you even read the post you replied to?

You're addressing half my point, my personal annoyance with them, and ignoring the point that they are not useful to people this far in advance. People are going to have four days to claim this game. Do they also need four days of notice to be on alert for that four day window? I doubt it. Did you put the game on your own calendar, or are you relying on people to remind you when the post actually starts being relevant?

I'm betting you expect to get another reminder later when it's actually useful. This one is just useless clutter that posts a link to a store page that has no active deal in the deals section.

It is not a fact though. Just your opinion

I'm not expecting anything but there is a post where another user is congregating these time-limited free deals already so they are easy to keep track of.

So tell me this. The guidelines for Spam on this website include "This also includes creating multiple discussions for content that could be more appropriately consolidated into a single discussion." As you just pointed out, there is a single discussion that appropriately consolidates these posts. So how is creating multiple discussions for this content not a clear breach of the spam rule?

I'm getting tired of this discussion. Take it up with the administration if you feel this strongly about it. I'd personally waste my energy on something else though. Like making my own notes to keep track of free game offers...

How is it spam when it's just one post

If someone posts "Hey guys, go to my store page and check out my game, it's going to be free on December 17th, 2022" It's very clearly just spam.

When the date is in the future, it's just promotion for the game.

You know, you just proved my point for me. Four posted on the same day within a few hours of each other, with two for the same game. And none of them contained an active deal at the time of posting. That sure sounds like spam to me.

Meanwhile, if I'm wrong and these threads are useful, than I did everyone a public service by bumping all four so they could all be at the top of the deals section for everyone to benefit from.

I personally agree with you.

I have enough to worry about, I don't want to be checking the Deals thread constantly to see what posted deals are actually live. I appreciate the tips, but it was a lot easier when people posted the tips when they were live.

Set a calendar reminder - yes, give me more work to keep track of all the deals. No thank you. I think it should be the poster's responsibility to keep the thread updated and live. Like '[Coming Soon] or '[Not Yet Live]', then change it to '[Live Now]' and re-update the post when it is actually valid.

Why should 1000 people have to scramble and do extra steps when one person who started the thread(s) should take up the responsibility.

Edit: Besides, a lot of these Steam timed deals seem to be crap games anyway...
