Valve have finally decided to abandon their plans to permanently damage everyone's eyesight. In the latest Steam client patch notes, there is this little note:

- Increased font size in chat to improve readability

And holy moly, it's true! It only took them well over five years to fix it, but it's finally here! Now your eyes will hurt ever-so-slightly less while squinting at the text. To celebrate this milestone, I've decided to do a giveaway. It is a much requested game, one that I am sure the fine folks of SteamGifts will enjoy. You will find it here!

Maybe in another five years, Valve will let us just CHOOSE the font size for ourselves. A man can dream...

Hijacking the first post so people can see how to change it back. The old size is 14.

This. Every single one of my friends had a mild panic attack along with me before we all realized it was in the update... And we all ranted about how we preferred the old font for a bit.

Only one person on my whole friend's list has complained about the font size being too small.... And that was a friend who just got Steam today. ._.'

Fucking wonderful. Not. I had no problems with the fonts, this will probably just piss me off. Are they taking whole chapters from Microsoft's book of "Deal with it, we've decided this and customers can fuck off if they don't like it."?

Valve basically wrote that book. Take a look at the past 4 years of Valve history.

Maybe it's just me, but when I put a feature in a program, the only way I'll expand upon it or improve it is by adding more options, not adjusting it and leaving only one. That's just lazy, clumsy, and not an improvement at all.

So you do understand the relative development/testing time of changing values wholesale vs. developing an interface to allow users to do it themselves?

Seeing as we don't know how Steam is intrinsically coded, it's probably a larger task than you think.

the download limit is more useful...

now I can play while downloading without affecting my latency.

This! I've been waiting for bandwidth limit on Steam since forever! ("forever" == ~5 years that I have been using Steam)

+1

font size is a matter of preference.
the real revolution here was finally adding rate limiting to the downloads.

Yeah, it was in the beta. I saw people complaining about it all along. Personally I never even noticed the change. LOL!

I didn't notice a difference, probably because I'm using the Pixelvision skin, but I'm glad you're happy with the change!

I never had a problem with the old font or font size (It appears to be a change in style as well as size to me), while I find the new one to be kind of garish.
