So apparently Metro 2033 and Last Light are getting Redux versions sometime in the next couple of months. The Redux versions will include a graphics overhaul, a port to a newer engine in the case of 2033 and a couple of new game modes for Last Light. So, what do you guys think of this? I was looking forward to getting Last Light during the Summer Sale, but now I suppose I'll be waiting for the Redux version to drop in price. Yep, that's right, they're not free updates for those who didn't realize. In fact you can preorder them right here. Owners of the originals can get each respective Redux version for 50% off.

1080P/60FPS confirmed for PS4 source.

Ontopic: I might get this on the PS4 if i get the 50% price cut (not sure if you get it when you got M:LL with PS+). Still haven't beaten 2033 and not even touched LL yet, but I want to.

Its said that M:LL gameplay gets ported to 2033 and stealth getting fixed. If thats true then I'll get it for sure.

So many Redux/Director's Cut lately.
I'm gonna look like a hoarder having 0 hours on Base Game, and tons of hours on Base Game Redux whenever i actually play it.

In all fairness you do get a discount if you own the originals so that's kinda okay I guess? But nah still too much, with Deus Ex there was a 75% discount for owners of the original version and dlc, these only have 50% discounts, so idk

This is quickly becoming new cancer.

Nothing but cash grab.

Note 50% is only for preorder and then you have to pay full price, so essentially paying 20€ for patch you haven't even seen and should've been free (Last Light isn't that old, 2033 Redux probably would be worth at higher discount).

So owners won't get it for free, this is bad, it should be free imo...

They want just to make money from their old game again. Feels very greedy to me. Seems in the latest years developers/publishers became very greedy, now practically every good big game has a Season Pass, like 2-3 yeara ago this didn't happened, after they try release tons of small useless or not that useless DLCs not included in Season Pass, now they make fixed versions of their games not like an update, but like a different game to grab your money.

I understand if you get a very old game like Ducktales, and remaster it, this is ok, but in case of Deus EX HR, Metro 2033 and Metro LL they could make a new game, like the continuation, but no...

Last Light Redux should definately be free. Only thing it does is integrate DLC and some gameplay tweaks.
Console release is understable, this is more like just "because we can" release to grab some money.

Metro 2033 Redux is actually more 'sane', as it is upgrade to Last Light engine and has real features like Linux support. But still many developers have given Linux version to previous owners.

What's even worse is that the "Complete Edition" with all the DLC came out just a couple of weeks ago.

+1
I won LL the day before complete edition was released so i was hoping to pick up the season pass in the summer to complete my metro collection since I really enjoyed both games and I normally tend to complete my collection once a DLC bundle comes out and the discount reaches 50-75%.
But now they're forcing you to buy a whole new game just so you can grab that last piece of dlc (the new game modes)
I would have been fine with something like a $5 upgrade pack, but a whole new game just makes me wonder if i should even waste money on the season pass.

Not necessarily. Sadly, you'll always find some spineless tools defending this, sugarcoating themselves and making excuses. I've seen it in Whispered World hub when they wanted to charge for a patch, i've seen people defending NYU Media when they didn't want to honor bundle purchases at first, also people with no problem paying 30$ for a 15 minute play of MGS:Ground Zero etc etc
Gamers have zero self-respect nowadays

Unfortunately :(

I mean they don't even let us see what they have changed and those believe "rebuilt from scratch" marketing.
Making game from scratch would've taken years not just few months.

Normally I like updates to be free, but moving to a new engine is a pretty major overhaul.
They also aren't that expensive, so I dont think its that bad at all.

This is mostly relevant for the next gen ports more than PC, and for people who haven't played them yet on PC and want already very pretty games to look even better.

Also, these dev's are working with card tables and folding chairs in Ukraine (or they were as of the launch of Last Light). They're not exactly rolling in money. If you already own the PC versions then don't upgrade, or don't until there is a steeper discount. But they're hardly greedy--they're more just trying to feed their families and maybe get better equipment. They make gorgeous games with fantastic stories, which is somewhat rare in the FPS genre these days.

If you want to hate on something, COD is still the same every year, and Activision still wants you to pay full price or only 50% off. That's way, way worse.

Read this: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-05-15-jason-rubin-metro-last-light-is-the-triumph-of-an-underdog

The conditions they were working in, compared to other AAA shooter dev's, are pretty awful. Yet they've still made some of the best FPS's in recent years, at least in my opinion, and they've been positively reviewed as well. These guys are not EA, or Activision, or whatever. They're not trying to screw you out of your money.

Well they certainly won't since i'm not going to buy it. I remember CD Project RED doing the same thing with Witcher 2 for free

I'm not saying you should--I won't either, though partly cus I can barely run Last Light as is. Like I said, this is mostly for next gen consoles, a common thing lately. There's nothing in Metro Redux that they've withheld from you, it's an optional upgrade for those that want the improvements. I'm sure they put a decent amount of work into this, and while I can see the argument for Last Light's updates being a patch, except it also includes the season pass. Each game is only 5 bucks more than the base game, has all the DLC, in addition to the updates. For Last Light, if you already owned it but didn't own the dlc, that's CHEAPER than just buying the already cheap season pass.

Bottom line, there are many things other dev's have done that are worse, and this dev needs the money more than post. If you don't like it, that's fine, and reasonable. But these guys are making better games than almost any of their competitors with a fraction of the resources. Personally I'll cut them a little slack and say let people speak with their wallets.

No need for it, I own both and it's by no means worth buying for something like this, same with Deus Ex, I won't pay for updates like this...I probably won't play them again anyway, which doesn't mean they're not good, I love both of them.

The price for existing costumers is a rip-off. I own both games and every piece of DLC for the second game (first one doesn't have any DLC), and they still ask for 50%... for what? The first game looks amazing still, so why would I want to play it with a slightly modified engine. It's exactly the same greed shown yesterday by the Q.U.B.E. devs who are selling the updated version for 50% off, instead of the promised free update for existing customers.

This is so much bs, in good old times we got free graphics patches, but now they want us to pay for it.... inb4 in future, if you want to have bugfix patches you need to pay for them.
