Hello everybody. My name is Matt, and I'm a performance whore.

(say hi Matt)

Anyways, yeah, I wipe my computer every month or so just because I'm a god damn computer geek, and I find it fun. And I might be going to my PS3 100% now, except for FPS games, because I can't stand juggling all my save games that don't use Steam Cloud Sync. It pisses me off. GFWL is a bitch to transfer to a new install, being there is two or three paths to back up... And then I wipe everything and realize GODDAMMIT FUCK I forgot that Resident Evil 5 save.

Yeah, haha, Source games are the least of my problems. They're all completed, and besides, my Steam install is on a secondary drive.

What's the point of wiping everything that often...? Doesn't seem like you'd have stuff taking up that much space that you need to get rid of monthly.

The problem for me is residual services and processes that linger after uninstalling software. There's a huge difference between a fresh install and an install after two weeks of usage.

Most people say the same as you, but, meh, I can tell the difference.

I hope for your sake that you at least recover from a decently setup and configured image rather then installing the OS and all the applications and configuring everything how you like it each time....

Yes, I have a WDS server with an image on it, actually.

You are aware that you lose more time wiping clean than to these 'lingering processes'? -_-"

Also, using wiper of unneeded programs takes all of 30 sec, or even doing it by hand if you know how...

I'm not using a third party tool to scan my running processes. Hell. No. Just more bloat I don't need. And hell, those POSes dont actually do a damned thing.

And like I said, I find wiping fun. And NOTHING can compare to a good fresh install.

Um... Those processes don't eat up much performance at all. After half a year they might eat up so much that you lose 3% performance, but not really more. At least my PC is running on the current install for 2 years now and actually it's running nearly as good as on day 1. only startup takes about 5 seconds longer

We obviously have different definitions of "running good."

I wish I had your enthusiasm. My computer is like three years old and I haven't cleaned it once. I'll do it sometime. Maybe.

You may have tried it, but Gamesave Manager has worked well for me for autmatically backing up all my save files. It usually gets updated every few days, and their pretty responsive about adding any games that aren't in the database already.

http://www.gamesave-manager.com/ recently released a new version its -really- awesome and it even manages steam folder splitting, gotta agree with rand on the recommendation there, oh and hi matt!!

oh also, little detail? the new version of GSM can use dropbox, or similar services to send your saves to cloud storage, so, that might seem like a good option

I wholeheartedly agree. I so wish that all games on steam used Cloud Sync.
