As it says in the title, apparently games are now region locked. But as we know a lot of games on this site are from Humble Bundle. So now how am i supposed to know in which giveawas i can participate. This information should be in the description so that the people who enter the giveaways know right...!? Please discuss

If you generate key / giftlink and give it away it can be region locked here

Thx for the link. So if a someone wants to give it away he has to do it with gift link or it will get region locked. But the problem still remains. A lot of people don't know this information and there is nothing written about this on the Humble Bundle page. People will have problems receiving gifts

Do you even read your thread? Even giftlinks are generating region locked keys. There are no way out, we're doomed.

If you give away the redeemed key it's region locked. But if you gift them as humble links they are not

No.
Wanna bet for 1 dollar? I have had made a GAs from codemasters bundle and currently have 3 keys locked. I can buy one more bundle and send gift links to winners instead of keys. But if they're locked anyways - you are to gift me a basic codemasters bundle. Deal?

Hey chill out dude. This is what i read from other people, i never tried it so...
I am sure people wouldn't lie about it, maybe for some bundles it's still doesn't work, idk, i just hope it does

It was debunked: all keys and links get locked to the region the buyer is from. No workaround.

Since when?

Since at least three people (one SEA and on SA) tried this a few days ago with gift links and the recipient got blocked. If you can find the other threads on this one, it was there, somewhere last Friday-ish (2015-11-27).

Too bad but don't really understand why. Aren't all the prices the same for all the countries in humble bundle, so why do they region lock them. I guess it's so that they would get more money.

False, participated on a group buy purchased on US, not valid keys for EU.

Was it the Capcom one? Because they are the only publisher who lock their games to EU and NA separately.

Messy, very messy.

Deep Silver, they started messing things on gamersgate on a weird way (purchased in EU and got non EU redemable keys), then they screwed amazon, then humble, and by now we can guess everywhere.

don't see any logic here, price is same worldwide :\
unless they are suffering from resellers... that might be true.

Keys generated from humble bundles have a chance of becoming region ed locked while gift links of said bundles are not.

Humble also prevents peeps from Japan a few others from buying bundles when they involve games from Sega and other Japanese publishers.

Gift links are not locked, but keys, which you get from them, have a chance to be region locked, if bundle was bought from certain regions.

I won a game from HB and I was unable to activate it because of a region block. True Story.

Yes there is. AFAIK the GRID games and some others can only be activated in China if bundle was purchased with a payment method issued in China.

There has been another topic about the Codemaster Bundle here before.

regional prices for different regions

Can't wait for 1$ = 1€ = 1£ on HB bundles, yay (╯ಠ_ಠ)╯︵ ┻━┻

No, pricing is the same. It only means less ROW people will finally have a chance in trades and don't have to compete with Russian groups buying the bundles in the thousands.

Humble support will replace the key if you ask them. I (EU region) gave away RE5 from the Capcom bundle. Winner was South Korean and claimed the gift link, but could not activate the key. We wrote a ticket and now he has the game.
Downside is that it took 2 weeks to get the first answer from them, but then it was done in a couple days.

Capcom locks NA and EU as different regions. I have zero idea why; this isn't the 1980s and 90s any more to have an NTSC and PAL version of games separately because America had to stay on an inferior format, and they don't use some generic low-violence version for Europe because of Germany either.

Damn, with my steam store being region lock i was waiting for a decent bundle to do some more giveaway. If even bundle websites have region lock (there shouldn't be though, aren't bundles priced the same worldwide???) where am I supposed to get my games for giveaways T_T. Also i'm in China and pay with french bank card, which lock would i get?!

I already don't enter many giveaways since the lock as i can't really give back good games now and now this :(

Prices are not the same world wide. E.g. Skyrim Legendary Edition with 75% discount is $12.49 USD instead of $9.99 USD. Humble Bundle has higher price for AU region just like Steamstore.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh for the games from the humble bundle store? I didn't know that. But for the bundles we are the ones naming the price so it should be pretty much the same BTA everywhere no?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think so, yes. I really don't see why it has to be region locked then...

Permalink

the humble store does have regional pricing, the bundles do not.

Permalink

The region should be locking to the payment method. If you pay with a card registered in France with a French address, it should be EU1/RoW.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Is this applied retroactively? Meaning, are the keys from old bundles also region locked now so if you have old keys saved for giveaways they need to be given within your own region?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

(While I do not know the answer to your question, I know that HB support can replace the key if asked. See above)

Permalink

No, these keys are supplied by the publishers. They cannot change how a key works after it was generated. So only a handful of bundles are affected, and only recently.

Only from HB and Bundle Stars. Other sites still offer RoW games. Plus I don't think all publishers will use these region-specific key generators.

I'm sorry, but what other sites? Every store I know except HB and BS is already selling region-locked games =(

Every? Including IndieGala, GamesRocket, FunStock, GreenMan Gaming, GamersGate, IndieGameStand, Direct2Drive, WinGameStore, GamesRepublic, coinplay.io, DailyIndieGame, Cubic Bundle (which is a Russian bundle site, to boot)…?

I totally forgot about IndieGala, and I'll check the others, thanks =)
Though I was mostly referring to the sites which sell unbundled games. For example, I have trouble finding ROW Ori and the Blind Forest.

So... aside from the capcom bundle which seems to get region speficic from the buyer... if im in the EU, does that mean the rest of stuff (like codemasters) will be ROW? just need to make sure how this all works before i try to make any more GAs or even potentially buy bundles for them too

Permalink

Codemasters for EU1/EU2 is RoW. This Deep Silver and Capcom are the only ones I know of that have EU-specific keys.

Permalink

RIght, i thought as much but i wanted to make sure, so unless there is some fiasco again like the capcom one, any bundles should be ROW (lets hope it stays that way)

Thanks!

some of the steam keys from HB are indeed region locked and have been for a long time. Very frustrating sometimes, but afaik steamgifts has regional filters.

This is BS, in Steam I'm fine cause we get better prices in poor countries, but in HB everybody pays the same, it makes no sense

Sorry about the necro, but I want to make my first GA and it's from a Humble Bundle. I'm from EU, should I mark the bundle as EU only or what?

Thanks in advance.

I think it depends on where do you live. If you live in a poorer country, than you gifts are probably restricted, if not everything should be ok

All right. I'll make my first GA not region restricted, get acquainted with the system and proceed with the following GAs accordingly.

Thanks for the input!
