Anno 1701 removed from Steam

Depends on how you view it. Like all new Ubisoft titles it uses uPlay which requires a constant internet connection to play. The problem with HOMM6 is that the Dynasty items which give your character huge stat boosts, and are almost required to finish the game, are not available in offline mode. Worse, in Offline Mode your Dynasty characters aren't available since all your saves are on uPlay. So the offline mode is essentally useless, because you cant continue in offilne mode, and offline mode characters are gimped to failure without the Dynasty items.

This assumes uPlay is even up when you want to play. It's better now but was horribly unreliable upon launch.

If you want to have an always on drm solution, that's ok, but if the infrastructure for it sucks then I'm not interested. The fiascos surrounding Settlers 7, For Dust, and now HOMM6 basically have regrettably made me shun what should be totally awesome games. I won't buy Anno2070 because of the same issues.

This is also discounting the AI issues and gameplay balance problems.

I own Anno 1404 retail copy. But i bought it only because it's not available on Steam.
But i don't like retail copies (my son like to play with discs and scratch it) and don't like to use multiple distribution systems. But may be i'll buy it on GG, thanks for your advice

I think you should be able to. I have Stubbs installed and haven't played it for a while (it did work for me), so I could try. But I probably won't. :) It's still listed on the account, though, so I don't see why it would go away if uninstalled.

Yes if you bought it before it was removed from the store you can play it. People who managed to snag Crysis2 before it disappeared still have it and can play and re-download it. You just can't obtain it from the store anymore. Similarly people who got Anno 1404/1701 cannot buy it anymore but they are still able to play the game on Steam (though 1404 is screwed up since it doesn't have the latest patch on Steam, so its better to go retail for that one even if you had it on Steam which is regrettable for what is considered the strongest game in the series)
