I live in Vietnam, SEA region. Steam Malaysia is at the same region with lower prices on all games. Would I get banned if I use vpn and how do they detect it?

You could theoratically get banned (or at least punished in some way). I have no idea how they detect it or what the chances are you get banned though.

Some people did report they got various bans for buying from cheaper regions using VPN.

But if Vietnam and Malaysia are in same SEA region, you can just find someone in Malaysia to buy you Steamgifts for keys or paypal.

Indonesia has even cheaper price and I'm from Brunei though currently studying in the Philippines. I have a Indonesian Friend and whenever a game I want comes out cheaper at his Area I would trade with him CS:GO Keys or future games and both of us agree to Equivalent Exchange (meaning both must be at least new equal price offer)

Trading with neighbours is better than using a VPN.

your friend seems trustworthy. Can I have his steam profile to discuss?

Malaysian steam store is slightly cheaper than Indonesian store though. About -5% difference or so for some games.

Obviously, not for No Man's Sky. The difference is crazy.
It costs you about USD$43 in Indonesian store, while it only took you about USD$26 in Malaysian steam store.

Depends on the game itself when comparing on Steamdb.

My advice would be: don't take the risk.
