Windows 8.1
there seems to be a lot of people saying that windows 8 is not really that good but in my opinion is a bit faster than windows 7, still not faster enough to make difference though

Its my understanding that there ended up being a significant difference between 8 & 8.1. When 8 launched, it got a lot of hate for a number of poor choices Microsoft made, to the point where people were having to install mods right away to make a functional product.

Personally, I used XP for a really long time and was hesitant to upgrade, but I've really loved 7. Vista was a steaming pile, but Microsoft seems to do a good job of having every alternate OS be a really good one. Although, since 8.1 ended up being solid, that means 10 has to be Millennium Edition to balance out the scales.

I'm not so sure about windows 10, i mean isn't it gonna be free even for ilegal users or something like that? not sure if microsoft is just betting on that "new features" or if windows 10 is not worth the money at all
but i also hope that windows 10 become the new windows 7, because you are right, i got windows 8 after a few days of release because it was 20-25€ i think and i kinda wanted to try it out, plus my computer was overloaded with crap but if i knew how it was i would just re-format my computer to windows 7

It will be a free switch to current windows 8 users, even those that pirated it. Honesly, I think the rep from 8 was so bad, that this is mostly a PR move for the company.

"Customers now running Windows 7 Home Basic, Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 8.1 will receive a free upgrade to Windows 10. Those with PCs powered by Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 8.1 Pro get Windows 10 Pro."

Huh, thanks for the update. It was a while since I read the article. Looks like the Alzheimers is setting in. Time to slowly fade away like my dignity has so many years ago.

My future plans are just to sit here and look dashing. No one has to know that there's not a single thought in my head.

yeah, i knew that windows 7 users were able to get windows 10 for free like Sisyphus said but i also think you might be right, windows 8 had some features missing when it was released, i never actually cared because in my point of view that was a OS for both pc and tables so i tried to not look at what was missing

Aye, Windows 10 will be a free upgrade, even if you're using a pirated version of the previous one. I think it's a desperate (and clever) push to try and get their market share concentrated into one level. Microsoft can say that their OS represents an overwhelming chunk of the PC market (which is true), but it's also spread out over 4 large chunks. You can't advertise features of a new browser or office product to people that are still using XP.

But if they can say half the PCs have Windows 10 within the first year of release, that will really incentivize the third-party markets. Someone could have their new software instantly available to a huge market.

win 7 pro 64b ... will update likely to win 10 when the first patches hit the unpatched shit out of the released win 10 version lol
have win 8 as well (in a virtual box > pointless win release for all i care on desktop devices) ... other than that > did "quit" ubuntu
as secondary backup os, never needed it

I don't understand that much hate on windows 8.It surely changed all these classic things since windows Xp such as (Start menu, side bar, badges) but it's really worth it maybe because i wasn't a fan of windows 7. Infact,I had vista before upgrading to my current 8.1.

I'm using swappable drive trays in my main computer and have different hard drives with different OS installs. Currently I'm mostly using Windows 7 pro 64-bit though, which is a lot better than I expected. I still use my dual boot Ubuntu/Windows XP drive sometimes though. I also have some Macs around with various versions of OS X but those are mostly work computers.

8.1, only because it was the most recent windows at the time of my build. Will switch to 10 for free when i comes out of beta for a more 7 ish (I was most comfortable with 7 and xp) feel.

Windows 10 Preview! It's awesome! It's better than Win8 and way better than Win7 and it's not even released yet.

Was running it on my resident franken-computer until the PSU in it decided enough was enough. Corrupted both windows versions, and while the win7 recovered no problem, Win10P has unfinished business with recovery.

I'm on Windows 7, though will be building a new PC soon. My new PC will then take the Windows 7 license, and the older PC will roll back to XP (for the older games that struggle with 7)

Windows 8.1, as there is no option for it. Windows 8 frankly, sucked. It was unstable, and inconvenient, the 8.1 update fixed most things for me.
