The publisher is THQ Nordic, I wonder if this has to do with Embracer selling some of their IP/studios to cut costs yet again.

I think they sold it off since there's a new Delta Force game coming soon from a Chinese publisher.

So it was that after all, this isn't giving me a lot of faith on their future as a publisher, I hope it's not a repeat of the previous incarnation of THQ's slow decline and collapse. Ever since they shut down Volition I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that at least Crystal Dynamics manages to survive the culling.

There was a sale at wingamestore in the last days, but by now they are delisted there (another indicator that the games will be delisted from other storefronts, too).

I'm gonna guess it's related to this being in the works:

It looks terrible already. Nothing to set it apart from the recent COD and Battlefield disasters.

Is it really made involving Tencent I thought they worked only with the EPIC store and not Steam?

They basically act like an investment firm. They've got their fingers in most bigger pots you can think of.

Companies don't really have any meaningful [anti-trust] restrictions in China (as we've also been orienting towards over here in the US in recent decades), and cross-industry focus is typical of larger Chinese companies, so when it's a Chinese company name you recognize, you can assume it normal to find their name on most anything you come across.

Tencent's especially notable for that, given that it's the 19th most valuable company in the world- which, given that it's primarily based in China's economy, tells you just how absurdly huge they are. (ie, considering the currency difference between it and the companies it's competing against, given the cheaper costs and far less governmental restrictions/fees it has to deal with in China. Put another way, if we consider economic impact/reach within their home country, they're likely among the very most top of companies in terms of size and power.)

That said, if we consider Tencent's main scope of industry, we can consider them basically a fusion of Alphabet/Google (having similar control over internet, AI, mobile games, smartphones, etc- they even control China's Bing-equivalent second-biggest search engine, to really make the comparison that much closer), Meta/Facebook (having dominance over Asian and I believe also SEA social media markets), Steam (not only because of their share in Epic, but also because of their dominance in China's gaming market), a top government-oriented security/surveillance manufacturer, and tons of other fields and companies related mostly to security, software, and internet functions.

(Take a moment to really consider how huge a company fusing the same scope and size as all of those companies into one actually is.)

And that's before we consider the venture capitalism zeruel mentioned- wikipedia states Tencent has investment in over 600 companies- which while likely also related to computing in most cases, can theoretically actually be in any field.

Welcome to the door of the dystopian world of megacorps. x_x

There is no mention of removal from Steam?

No, but there have been parallel delistings on GoG/Steam with some delay in between. The thread title sounds too certain, I admit. "High risk of removal" would have been better.

Lucky. Back when, I bought several Delta games and couldn't ever get the LAN multiplayer to work, so I eventually just stopped buying them. -.-;

I recall the series being pretty clunky even for the day, though, not sure how we'll they'd have aged now. For a smoother alternative, it might perhaps be better to aim for some of the co-op splinter cell games (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist) or SWAT successor games (eg, Ready or Not, and that other major one I can't remember the name of atm), depending on the orientation of gameplay preference.

Still, musta been awesome back in the day, back when ID was basically the only one doing (good) co-op shooters. /envy

We didn't play Black Hawk co op.
We played it by turns :)

SWAT 3 was awesome. My PC was slow so my FPS was 45-50 frames. Aiming was hard :)

When we could afford the second PC we played Diablo 3, Rainbow 6 Vegas 2, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Division 2, some Call of Duty games, Gears of War, Halo. My dad though splinter cell is too hard. (He didn't understand stealth for long time.)
I wanted us to play Assasin's Creed Unity. He was scared of it too.
I bought so many good and mediacore Co Op games.
He needs a bit babysitting though.
So we need to play like a local lan party and I need to constantly guide him.
His english is not so well. It also hurts him.
Once I set his character and guide him what to do I get the best Father /Tank combo.

PS: I saw him headshoting bots with P90 while playing Counter Strike years ago.
Now he needs a scope to be able to aim anything :)

My ex loved playing Heroes of Might and Magic 3 co op.

Did you play Jagged Alliance 2?
It is one of my favorite turn based strategy game ever. You need to patch it with community golden patch though.
Then you receive a very detailed war game. A true goldie

Used to play delta force some two decades ago online as a kid.
Made a friend online, and later named lobbies with his name, just to see if I could ever find him again.
I didn't know any English and communication was extremely poor at best.
We were on a custom map, constantly getting sniped but we kept rezzing eachother and continuing on a bridge in the sky.

Sadly never found him. Cya, BlackDragon

I don't know when the sales are, but expect them to be removed very soon, like even tommorow perhaps when they are working again.

I wouldn't have mind perhaps to get the Delta Force steam bundle for 20 euro, but that's still only 4 games, and not everything, so i am also just letting it pass. Yeah it's what it is.

It's likely they will be available again. Maybe new store pages from the new publisher or maybe old store pages updated. Old store pages wouldn't be removed unless the rights to those games are changing hands, and why buy the rights to old games if you aren't going to sell them? Either way I expect these games will be available again at some point in the not so distant future.

how do you know this? If it is because the new one is by a different company that really means very little in connection to the older games

Permalink

If old publisher still has the rights to the old games they wouldn't be delisting them, if new publisher is paying for the rights they would want to sell them too

what new publisher? lot's of times old publishers remove games form lots of stores including Steam - Black Hawk Down was removed over a year ago

Comment has been collapsed.

It's not often that an entire franchise is removed at once. Publishers often remove games because of licensing agreements ending or new versions coming out. TiMi Studio Group is publishing the upcoming Delta Force game, maybe they are also going to be new publisher for the older games. Or maybe THQ just randomly decided to stop selling these games to use FOMO to push people to buy the games before they disappear

I wish this goes on a sale, because I've got left a few games I wanna get if it get's removed. Which to be fair, it would suck.
