I'm not really sure this might be the best place to post this but basically he tried impersonating another user to get me to trade with him. he didn't have what he was offering and linked me to the account of a proper user of sg to try and make me go first.
i can also offer a screenshot of the chat we had for proof. as he isn't registered to steamgifts or steamrep there isn't a way to ward off people against him but i was hoping you might know where to go from here (considering i've already reported him to both steam and steamrep)
In any case may this be of warning to all traders, be careful of who adds you. always double check on their profile and the links they give you to be sure they are who they say to be.

I'd contact that user and inform them that they have an impersonator as well.

Report the scam attempt to Steam by using the according button on the scammer's steam profile. You can also fill a steamrep report if you have enough evidence.
By the way, you can also try to reach the victim of impersonation in order to make sure he/she is aware of that (so the person can make a warning on his own profile, for example).

i have the evidence and just now started the report process on steamrep, i also added the impersonated user immediately, any way to inform the users of steamgifts in the meantime?

Even if the impersonator is not a SG user, it could fall under the "no calling out" rule. I'm not sure of that, but I would not take the risk :)

calling out is regarding the user that committed the impersonation, i linked the user being impersonated (if you know him and tell him, or if he sees this post he'll know to stayon the lookout for an impostor).

Can't you just add him and tell him?

Honestly, i believe you, but since you are not allowed to post any proof i can't know for sure and so i won't go around warning people about it, best if you tell the impersonated user yourself.

Do what you feel is the best, i won't report you, just pointing it out so it doesn't bite you in the ass.

absolutely, i understand.
that's why i was careful as to avoid naming the user doing the impersonating and only named the impersonated one. (i have already added him and am only waiting for him to accept to inform him)
in any case i'll remove the link to the impersonated user.
