It's just nicer to have a huge collection of DVDs with great covers than just a HDD in a shelf

Unless you have a huge shelf to display the front covers, then you'd most likely only seeing the spine which is 5% of the entire case.
When you can only fit 2-3 DVD cases in the same space as a 2TB HDD and have over 600 games, then it seems somewhat silly to opt for the DVDs.

5% is enough, since you can always pull a single one out. It's just a nicer feeling to browse games this way, and it's a good way to showcase your games
Yes, it's kinda stupid to do this with over 600 games... But why not the top 200 or so? :P. It's not about backing up your digital data, it's about showing it

Well, i guess backing up is also a little aspect. I totally agree with you that a single HDD would be a lot better if it was all about backing up

Peroxide, I get your point, but I don't want to have ALL games in boxes either. But those who I really like, and feel I should own a physical copy, you see? I don't even make backup off my games, i just download them as necessary, but I definitely wanted to have some games in boxes, like 20 or so. Games like CIV 5, deus ex, GTA IV, Don't starve, etc. Just a nice little collection. Most covers that I seek already exist, but maybe someone can make some more, and maybe accept requests as well.

Sorry, but for those who do not understand, there are still people that likes to collect physical games, people with shelves full of games for other platforms. This would help those people to own a "physical copy".
I understand that some people think this is crap, and its way better to store backups in a HDD, or better yet, not saving backups at all, but, there may still be people who like to collect the physical boxes. It would be great to see some covers for some indie games.

I'll see if I can free some time for that... would be a nice little challenge (I usually do more illustrations than designs). :) thanks for the tip ^^

Try this website http://www.steamgamecovers.com/
There are quite a lot of great covers there.

I think most designers that submit their covers there realize that many buy their PC games digitally. Isn't the PC cd covers the same size as the 360? If there are some covers you wanted but didn't find a PC version off, try to use the 360 ones (some don't have the 360 logos on them)

A few years ago, when I still had my PS3, I usually printed custom covers from this website. Those covers were so awesome, and because I saw a thread today, speaking of buying games, etc I started looking for this again, too see if they had PC games too. They have, but are really few because those artists were mainly console gamers.
I myself lack the skill to any design (unless is paint), but I hope that there must be someone here in this forum that would like to start doing this for fun. It would be a great project, and for people who wanted to have something more.. physical, this is their chance, creat a steam backup of the game, print the cover in Staples or whatever, and put the game in a hardbox, burned in a CD/DVD.
Templates are in the neogaf forum, and here you can see a small example (found here) of what could be done.
