So umm today ive encountered my (very first ever!) impersonator :o while im a bit flattered (ty random groupee !) i doubt he has done it just for gags and i was wondering if there is anything i could do about it?

i already reported the person in question to steam support but i think that might take months, if not years to resolve... if it does get resolved at the first place. So i was wondering what are my other options, if any?

edit: and no he definitely hasnt made it for laughs, because he linked my steamtrades profile on his steam prifle, not sure if im allowed to post his profile link or not?

another edit: heres his profile, i dont htink it should be considered calling out because its all in public anyways... so yeah, but someone let me know if its against the rules please !

Delete link on his profile, its marked as calling out...
so
You can defend... set on your profile description info about impersonator, create avatar with text, i have impersonator etc, and some info about your profile in picture too, he leave impersonating of you in few hours. (i defend myself like this 2 times already, it works)
Also report him sure.

ah ok thanks sketz ! but as i said he even added my steamtrades rep to his profile, so not sure if calling out rule applies here. I mean that rule about calling out exists mostly because of witch hunts, but everyone can see whats he doing so... oh well, ill delete it now thanks again for your help !

Set your ID64 in photo and also his ID and inform others to check verity of profile.
unfortunately, I have reinstalled my PC, my defend avatar is gone, i can't show you it.
Just write all what you need into profile pricture, but not very much text.
Smth like:
I have an impersonator, his ID xxxxx, check verity of profile!
My steam account level is xx
My steam account have xxx games
Over 3000 trades done.
etc... = do this and he change person. Report him and wait. :)
Link to your profile on his profile is nothing, just create what i said, he cant have on picture "i have 1000 games" if he have 7 :D only foolZ can trush him (if can read a bit)

just talked to a guy whos been into trading for serveral years, much longer than i have. And he told me that most of impersonators he reported years ago are still out there... so not sure how much good is that going to do. Not to mention he already has 8 steamrep reports... i did report him and another 15-20 people from my friends list have done so already too, but yeah... im not expecting anything to happen :P ty though !

Well, i had 0 problems because im not a trade person (the only trades that i do, are sending offers to 1:1 bots for card's exchange), but i always see people saying that you should report them on steam, because steamrep its easyly exploitable (multiaccounts etc)

i did that, he has like 20 reports by now and its bound to grow by the end of the day when more people log on :)

Report on steamrep and do what was suggested, make sure to post your own stats and ID64. That cannot be faked, only cracked, but Steam Guard and a protected email account should cover that. Nothing else can be done.

Since most of your trades probably originate from your trade threads you should post at the top of it a warning for impersonators. It helps to refer there to the number of games, your Steam Level or your shown profile badge. These are stats which are harder to copy. If people are still falling for him it is there fault and you can refer them to said post. If they are intelligent they will atleast not give you any bad reputation.

yeah i think im gonna do that too but the thing is he linked to my rep and not my topics obviously :/ so not sure if anyone is going to read that, other than people who want to trade with genuine me :P

The guy has 8 pending reports on Steamrep, you might want to add the link to that on your Steam profile.

SteamRep itself cannot do anything about them, they just show you that the user is indeed a known scammer. And SteamRep is still lightspeed compared to Steam support.

Sadly that over half billion dollars of pure yearly profit is not enough to hire a few more people. :(
But hey, maybe after the built-in streaming that nobody uses, they may add a new social platform nobody will use for that money!

That's my first and only "impersonator". How do i dealt with him? I REKT HIM and defeated his team with my friends xD

Also, according to his ping, seems like that Ben0sauR was from China or near it.

they can be a pain in the ass. got some -rep thanks to impersonators here. luckily support removed it. but the real pain in the ass is to talk to the victims and convince them they did not trade with you. haven't had an impersonator in a long time though.

yeah i really thought it stopped since i havent had random adds for weeks already, but i think i have done whats in my power. maybe if he gets more reports to support in short amount of time it would speed things up? i suppose we'll find out soon enough :P

i actually got notified by another person he was impersonating before he decided to switch to my profile (Why me , you random groupee !) so if he decides to make another jump ill make sure to notify his newest victim.

What kept me safe surprisingly - 2 different names (Steam/SteamGifts) (don't put them to words) only registered users
who are "intelligent" enough to follow the Link from my SteamGifts profile are worthy to know lol. Kinda obvious since two
names appear less authentic/consistent - but thanks to Steams System every bugger can take over any other Users Name
and rough apparel but not the SteamGifts one.

What makes me angry is how users from this site are unable to differ between FAKE or NOT,
by simply following the Link in ones SteamGifts Profile that leads straight to the real Steam Profile.
Wish there was some kind of compulsory tutorial that forces every user to view the info > how to
know their dealing with the right user ...

Whats also not good > not existing users LINK to the SteamGifts main page ... = blank-link only info is oh that link goes to SteamGifts.
instead of showing some message "THIS USER DOES NOT EXIST, has not registered". But then again someone who's capable of
looking up users (with steam enhanced, not manually i'd expect) would likely be able to know what that means anyway ...

well, technically i also have 2 different names ! Turtlesaurus and Turtlesaur ! :P

i really wish people who want to trade would read a thing or two first, and just install Enhanced steam, because that one always gives links to real profile no matter what so there would be no room for error at all :/

not to mention people really should be able to figure out something is fishy, no? I mean if i were to trade and i run into a guy that has 110 rep, tons of games for trade, but only owns 5 games...

yeah they should even though rarely profiles with more games impersonate, those still are likely loaded with free to barely value trash... but were talking about usually 11 - 18 year old kids with the average intelligence/attention span of a disease stricken squirrel with 1 eyeball, crippled foot, who will not surviving this winter lol

and yes technically you do - but here is the thing, i just checked your profile to verify like i do sometimes, to see who has been impersonated and the thing is "always" the same - > some guy using the same name (in your case i didn't even notice the difference - i am that squirrel too if i don't care [since i straight followed the link from your profile and viewed it for 5 seconds?])

poor squirrel !

but yeah i can give him that, he did a good job at first i was like... omg thats me ! but since im a smart turtle, it took me only a couple of minutes to realize if this is me, that other one cant be me too because there is only one me, so naturally 2nd me is not possible and only real and genuine me, is ... me !

right. right? >:<

I don't get it. So how does one believe in the guy's reputation if his acc isn't even a year old. Has anyone already got scammed this way? And how does it work actually?

well people new to trading are just, well, new so most of them dont know how things function here. And most of them dont really bother to read a few warnings here and there either. Heck ive seen people new to trading, doing trades for Fallout 4 or other 20k + games getting scammed during their very first trade, so yeah it happens more often than it should, imo :/

Looks like it's probably the same dumbass who was impersonating Delta and a bunch of others. He had his previous sub account banned. Try changing your avatar to directly warn people. Something like this might help.

No problem. They never keep impersonating a user for very long, so you'll probably be free of it soon.

Unfortunately, it just means someone else will be their target. : /

Make it clear that you have an impersonator on your trade thread/profile and report. Nothing much more you can do but hope for the best :/. But I feel your pain bro, had the same issue back in February and got a lot of angry peeps going after me because they though a low lvl account with 5 games was me -.-.

I think anyone - in any part of the internet - should work under the assumption that there might be impersonators around (or there will be) and act accordinly. Also, one should assume the same about others and always be very careful - the internet is a very dangerous place to the average user.
As far as I'm concerned Steam-wise, as a precautionary measure I included my unique identifiers in my Steam profile info (including a comment stating that a username is NOT a unique identifier just to make it clearer to the technologically challenged and/or naïve). I also stated I don't trade CS:GO or DotA 2 stuff, so anyone checking my profile should immediately know whether he's dealing with an impersonator or not (even without noticing the high level, 2k+ games &c.)
P.s. also including unicode art that is not copy-pastable should deter many impersonators. I hadn't put much thought on it, but I hardly can imagine an impersonator trying to replicate my layout, between emoticons, the Seele symbol mid-page (which is done using 5 or 6 types of different "invisible characters").

yeah if everyone would only use common sense, i mean scammers are everywhere even in real life.. internet just makes it easier for people to act like an $##hole, thats all so additional precautions wouldnt hurt :P

Scammers impersonate you due to your rep thread, so hit them where it hurts and do it like this guy:

http://www.steamgifts.com/user/LostSoulVL/feedback

You just need to find the person who left you the first feedback and let him edit his post in such a way. Or let someone give you negative feedback with a warning about impersonators and how to identify you properly.

If, in turn, you see someone being impersonated, you should leave a negative comment on their profile with a warning. That might make the impersonator move on to someone else.
