Do you think that the naming of Whitelist and Blacklist is racist?

Yes, I strongly believe that it is and these names should be canged
Yes, but I don't think it is a good enough reason for the admin to change the names
No, but I can see that it may bother some people so the admin should change it
No, its not racist at all and should stay the same
I have a more complex opinion that I would be more than happy to comment down below

We should just remove the words black and white from the english language.

If people are going to start this discussion any time people mention perfectly legitimate colors, fuck it. Get rid of those words. It's not like we'll ever need to identify anything other than skin by its color.

It has nothing to do with race.

The term "whitelist" means to allow something, and the term "blacklist" means to restrict something. It's that simple. It's part of the English language.

I repeat - it has nothing to do with race whatsoever

According to Wikipedia:

According to the Henry Holt Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins the word "blacklist" originated with a list England's King Charles II made of fifty-eight judges and court officers who sentenced his father, Charles I, to death in 1649. When Charles II was restored to the throne in 1660, thirteen of these regicides were put to death and twenty-five sentenced to life imprisonment, while others escaped.

So at least the term "blacklist" is not a historically racist term.

They are just too sensitive. I wouldn't even care if someone call me "yellow Asian guy".

That is not my my point. What bothers me is black is being related to something negative.

Anyway, thanks a lot for comment :)

Yes, but you could argue that everybody who doesn't like the color black is being racist. People might also be afraid of the darkness, which is black. Overall, don't think you have some sort of proprietary rights to "black" :s

Maybe when the first whitelist/blacklist in the world was made, they thought that white represents light, and black represents darkness. Generally, people see white as 'holy' or 'worthy'. If you seen a beam of a bright, white light, you might think it looks holy. And whitelists are for people who have special access, or who may be considered worthy. People generally see black as a bad thing. Like, if you're in a pitch-black room, it will probably put your mood waayyy down because it's just not a happy place. But if you're outside and the sun is shining, you might be put in a happy mood because it's bright. I understand you may think it could be about color, but I HIGHLY doubt that it was the intent of the creator. Because honestly, black as a color in general, IS negative. It brings darkness, sadness. People who are 'emo' or 'goth' wear black because they're not in a happy place. Stop thinking anything about this is about color of anyone's skin, it's much bigger than that.
