You can't play them without having played the first one as you will miss on the story. I'd start trying on xbox360gifts if I were you.

For SR2 make sure to check out this post on the steam forums. It should be able to help out with all the bugs and provide the fixes and necessary mods. Volition did a horrible job porting this to the PC but thankfully the modding community was able to fix their mess for them.
