I've been slowly making my way through the Humble Bundle. Finished Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery last week and finished Limbo just yesterday (both very good games). I don't plan on playing any of the bonus games as I've already beaten Braid and the other two games don't really appeal to me.

So now I have Bastion, Psychonauts, and Amnesia. I'm saving Bastion for last and I've played Psychonauts before but never beat it (damn OCD made the war game part too frustrating with all the collectables). I'm pretty bad with any type of horror but Amnesia is so highly regarded it's hard not to be curious. Do you think someone who doesn't like sudden scares would enjoy Amnesia?

Amnesia does not have too many gif-pop-up scares, however it has a really deep athmosphere which, at some points, won't fail to get you scared unless you play it in the Love Tunnel in Disneyland at 1pm. That said, if you want to play it, play it correctly (night, headset) otherwise you will miss the athmosphere. It does have a few sudden scares that made me jump, but you rather feel followed by an unknown thing and secretly wish to just nuke everything around you.

From what I've played, it doesn't really have sudden scares so much as consistent terror.

I'd say it's worth a go, if nothing else.

I reckon you should give it a go, getting scared is still pretty fun haha.

Guess it's all in the eye of the beholder. I've only seen gameplay vids, but it's failed to seem even remotely scary. Wish you can enjoy it, but I wouldn't bet on that myself.

I, for one, immensely enjoyed the setting, atmosphere, sound effects and of course the story in Amnesia. Though I didn't get 'scared' nor did I expect to be, I think it's still a great game when you approach it like an adventure game.

Just watch some of this guy's Amnesia videos. You'll never be scared in that game ever again.

It's not scary. It's not fun. It's not worth playing.

I invited a friend to play it with me at night. No lights, just the computer screen and surround audio. Scared the living shit out of the both of us. Great times

Glad to know I'm not the only one having issues with Psychonauts. Damn shiny objects flying all over the place. I want them all.

Shame on you for not playing Lone Survivor, I would love to play the game (I don't have the BTA because I got the bundle gifted :/).

Amnesia is an awesome game. It doesn't have sudden scares, but a very good atmosphere. As long as you don't play custom stories, which often contain jump scares, you can play it. You might play it for like 10 minutes to try it out.

I don't like jump scares either. I recommend Amnesia, because it's a great game, but I still can't work up the nerve to finish it. Still, it's highly rewarding when I play it, because I'm usually a huge wimp when it comes to stuff like this.
