In South Italy we have different types of "broccoli", called "broccoli baresi" (Puglia region), or "friarielli" (Campania region), or "broccoletti neri" or "broccoli" too!
For me your broccoli are "broccoli baresi", but I'm not sure it's the right definition for them.

The strawberries not being berries is hilarious, quite a major language malfunction. Thankfully that issue doesn't happen in other languages.
Also, pineapples are not apples nor have anything to do with pines, they're berries :P

I knooow! I call it the Berry Conspiracy! Everything is a berry! Watermelon, pumkins, tomatoes, chili peppers! Banana for crying out loud! (and think about it, they're taking over every corner of the known world. Apple are berries.... Blackberry! Thanks the Gods for Android not being a berry :P )

Speaking of language malfunction in food: peanuts are not nuts, they're legumes like red beans! And neither are Cashew nuts! (they're seeds of the Cashew Apple)

End of the world, I tell you.

Lotsa food with names that aren't very descriptive of what they are.
My grandpa has a cashew tree and yeah, you need to let the fruit rot away, then clean the seeds, then cook them in the oven and just then you can eat them. Too much waiting involved and you end up with way more than you can realistically be bothered to eat.

A chef friend of mine said that raw brocco has very little nutritional value, and needs to be cooked first to make all the nutrients available.

Broccoli is the younger, more successful brother of the cauliflower. While the older brother grew in mass and paleness, the younger one preferred a more active lifestyle, staying as green as it gets.
These young guys show the appreciation of greeness:

I don't like broccoli.
Though, as an historian (or "umanista", as we say here in Italy believing we're still in the XVI century), whenever I read a perfectly-written Italian word commonly used in an English context, I feel like I'm forced to study in deep the argument.
Broccoli is plural. Broccolo is singular, masculine.
The English vocabulary uses TONS of Italian words, but they're always left as they are and so "spaghetti", "pizza", "bolognese" and so on are used as if there was no transformation - Italian has lots of gender transformation and such.. it has quite a complex grammar if you want to speak a "perfect" Italian, actually.
So, one should be forced to talk about "broccoli" only in a plural form.
But this is not the case - I read "broccolis" in some vocabularies!
Broccolis means "broccoli broccoli" in Italian, it's like saying "mount fujiyama" in Japanese where already "yama" means "mount"..
Oh by the way this is a totally irrelevant comment. I don't like broccoli. Not even a single broccolo.
And thanks to the Finns, who are as always the best and I'm so happy to bear a Korpiklaani tattoo since 2003 or something. Wiktionary says "parsakaali" is the word they use. Amazing.

you deserve a whitelist, definitely =P
I try to help when and where I can on MA, it's been sort of a daily task for me and it's lots of fun =P
Abyssic Hate - Suicidal Emotions is and will always be for me the best album ever, although growing up I'm shifting more towards pop (good pop I mean, not the American radio pop xD), folk and other music genres.. I keep on listening to many metal genres though of course, and yeah you mentioned definitely some of my favourite acts.. I had the extreme luck to meet and talk to Tim Yatras which is to me one of the greatest geniuses in these decades, both for singing, playing and even writing.. songs like cold grey dawn are masterpieces.. well then we have Beatrik in Northern Italy and I'm really proud of them, plus I saw Forgotten Tomb a dozen of times (love them, they're great guys =P and Herr Morbid is CRAZY when it comes to music knowledge, he is an amazing guitarist too and he knows EVERYTHING, although it doesn't always come out from his music.. but he's really another genius who knows so many bands and technical things.. he's from my same region so I had the chance to meet him many times luckily!).. too bad Beatrik released only two albums (masterpieces that I own of course)..
great great tastes mate, congrats =P

oh mate, that's crazy! gonna tell you a story! XD Well, Lifelover embarked on their European tour and they were about to reach Milan when B. died.. it was literally the NEXT date on their tour, and in fact they came and played sort-of a very weird session without guitars/singing in most parts... something really not memorable at all 'cos it was very very random and B was clearly the mainman both in writing and in leading the group.. but they were so shocked and I recall the drummer crying through all the show..
They hung a B mask and yeah it's definitely one of the things I miss the most, seeing Lifelover when they were complete, not their reunions or even Kall.. 'cos B was really Lifelover's mind and body, he also sang on many tracks too..

I'm really really happy when someone recognizes or even listens to Italian metal bands, be them Rhapsody or Beatrik or other cult black metal bands and so on.. 'cos Finland, Sweden, even Germany etc. have so so many awesome bands.. in fact I grew up with power metal and so mainly German metal, then started focusing on black metal and folk metal.. plus always had a peculiar love for In Flames (though I don't like melodic death metal in general) and Tiamat, both Swedish of course.. in Italy we really have some good bands, less than Finland Norway etc, but we are such a ridiculous crowd and a ridiculous nation that we don't even go to concerts, I attended Shining concerts with 10 people in the audience, not joking, Wolves in the Throne Room we were in 20..

I'm jealous way too much, I mean, I love my country but I admire Finns over every other nation, and it's not surprising for me that going on with the years I'm listening more and more to Finnish acts and dropping the norwegians and swedish ones (danish ones? XD).. can't wait for new finntroll stuff, can't wait to see turisas+korpiklaani here in Milan in some months again, can't wait to talk with them in our awful English since both Finns and us neo-Latins speak some weird non-Germanic English xD

but it's really another story and the Lifelover example is perfect: you saw them, while the date some days after B died was the FIRST and ONLY italian date ever they made.. here we listen to American pop sh*t and Italian rappers these days (although I saw that also in Finland there are many rappers nowadays ahahah, I like old school hip hop though but just some artists and there's no comparison for the crap we hear every day)..
I really hope you'll have the chance to see forgotten tomb, they're really awesome and they had such a great guitarist in Razor SK who unfortunately left years ago.. he was a gifted guitarist..
by the way Esa Holopainen from Amorphis is one of my three favourite guitarists together with Peter Huss (shining and many other bands xD) and roland grapow (ex-helloween, they've been my favourite band since I was 12 xD)! Amorphis are truly an awesome band, and luckily I saw them many time, always in Milan.. 1 gig (if we're lucky) in north-western italy and 20 gigs in Germany, usually, for every band xD

we have a very nice dsbm scene here but it's totally underground.. Finland in our imaginary is the country of folk, sweden of death, norway black, germany power.. xD
and even if I'm a bit in a rush tonight I can't remember though of many finnish pop singers.. oh I've got everything of Jaakko Teppo but he doesn't play pop xD well there's so many pop singers I like.. I often like them when they sing in their own language.. coeur de pirate, joyce jonathan, siri nilsen, ingrid olava, alina orlova, lisa hannigan, melissa horn..... as long as they're female and they're a bit classy and unique, I love pop xD

my pleasure and thanks for your time! =)
yeah, it's quite a shame but we're a stupid nation overall, and there's a reason if barely a band does a single gig here and 20 in germany which has the same population as Italy.. and of course every gig is in the extreme north-west of italy, so that they can bring guys from switzerland and france too, fortunately i was born somehow near milan so I never have problems to go there.. but really I attended concerts with 10-20 people and i'm talking about bands world-wide famous.. =\
Stormlord are another great Italian band and i'm always happy when I read on youtube for instance that bands like that are so followed and loved, here they barely sell 100 copies while in the rest of the world they have festivals and such (we don't even have festivals anymore in the whole country apart from the mainstream bands like iron maiden which get every time 100.000+ people, 3 quarters of which know juts fear of the dark xD)..
anyways even if we're a shit country we have too many gems but you've got to dig deep, looking at such lists -> http://www.metalunderground.com/bands/country/Italy/ makes you feel really we're a country of 60 million people but no one knows those bands.. even rhapsody, even lacuna coil and other more "mainstream" acts here make way less public than scandinavian bands..
yeah I spent many years between say, 22 to 27 years old without attending concerts due to depression and many other things but now not only I started again, but I picked up something I never did - going to the concerts not for the main act but also for all the supporting bands, so I saw for instance arkona, heidevolk and many others in the last months, when I was 20 I used to go and see just stratovarius or helloween or whatever, ignoring the 2-3-4 bands before them xD
thanks for the chat, you've got a way better culture than me xD and I really appreciated you mentioned " ... " too, the guys have also other projects such as this one : https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Photophobia/3540319100#band_tab_members which is very worthy to be listened to, finland+italy =P like Fylgjur..even if of course they don't play live, and they don't sell anything 'cos it's all so underground, here at least.. thank you and have a nice weekend =)

Few things so good as the glory of fresh broccolli that has been pressure-cooked to the exact right amount of done-ness and lightly salted. 😀 😍

Also, I prefer paper bags to plastic, except for wrapping raw meat in the store. Otherwise, it drips, and leaks through the paper bags. 🤣

It never even occurred to me to pressure cook broccoli. How long would you cook it for, and at low or high pressure?

And after learning about how plastic microparticles have become so common that there's plastic microparticles in our tap water, filtered water, and beer, I've become much more leery of using plastic bags.

We pressure cook it for 3-4 minutes on high pressure. Of course you have to add a half-cup of water (or similar) at the start. We like ours not-crunchy; you can always cook it longer if you like them softer.

It's green! We're not meant to eat anything green! Are we rabbits?

has a taste

Oh you know what? Actually it's not bad.

roasts it, covers it in bechamel sauce and parmesan cheese and tastes it again

This is the best thing ever! I dont even care that it's green!

I feel like we eat veggies primarily because they're good for us - otherwise we'd just eat bacon, dark chocolate, and gelato all day long.

But if we cover veggies in bechamel sauce and parmesan cheese, are they still good for us? Or are they merely less bad than bacon and dark chocolate gelato?

And that brings me to my next question, why has no one made a bacon and dark chocolate gelato yet? That's a combination made in decadent flavour heaven.

We'd be severely lacking in vitamins but we'd be immune to depression and sleeping very well!

Excellent point, sadly. Although I guess a moderate amount of grated parmesan cheese just to give some umami to Broccoli would be fine and quite healthy. Poetic, even. Like a thin dusting of snow on a tiny tiny tree.

And that brings me to my next question, why has no one made a bacon and dark chocolate gelato yet? That's a combination made in decadent flavour heaven.
