"We have some sad news to share with our Humble regulars today.

We've long worked to create a community where gamers can connect and share their love for amazing games, software, and books. A part of this connection was built through our Refer a Friend program, which has been in place for the last several years. Unfortunately, the program has reached the end of its life due to an unmanageable spike in referral abuse over the past several months.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. Many of you have enjoyed the program, and we’re investigating other options this year that offer similar benefits for our most loyal customers.

We want to thank everyone who participated in the Refer a Friend program and helped grow Humble’s community. Your referrals allowed us to increase our support for charities and meaningful causes, and we loved offering you a way to share Humble Bundle with your friends.

All our best,
Humble Bundle"

IGN could do even more charity work by making humble bundle better again. We'll see which feature they remove in another 6 months.

I'm surprised they lasted that long. Maybe they just didn't put much attention to abuse detection before.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing when I read that...
Like... wait... they're only realizing now that the referral system is being abused??

I think they should expand their accepted payment methods to include more emerging countries and their respective currencies. Currently, it is limited to Western countries and China/Japan.

I don't have any friends. So this won't impact me... Still wonder why it took this long.

It's funny that they shut down the referral program right after I got my first ever referral :D

But I'm also surprised how it took them years to realize that people could just create a new account and use their main account's referral link and refer to themselves. Maybe they should've had a system in place where it detects if 2 accounts use the same credit/debit card/paypal account but maybe there were privacy issues with that approach.
