Oh god yes

Waits for all games to convert to Linux

Apparently they made a DX to OpenGL wrapper to convert all games, bye Windows....

Yeah, I don't know where the wrapper talk came from, but the L4D port was an actual native Linux port utilizing OpenGL.

"The big problem that is holding back Linux is games. People don't realize how critical games are in driving consumer purchasing behavior. We want to make it as easy as possible for the 2,500 games on Steam to run on Linux as well."

Sorry I might have assumed a bit but thats how it looked to me, honestly why would he base a system on it if only Source games or whatever would work, it would fail hard.

I've still yet to see any real true confirmation of a box. But what it looks like they are trying to do is really encourage other devs, big and small, to start practicing platform independent programming and get more games going. You'll notice that there are quite a few indie titles on Steam for Linux, and I'm sure that's only going to grow. If they do come out with a box, you're right, it won't have many big games to start, but they are trying to open doors.

Ah, well we will see where it goes. Hopefully they don't go and lock the thing down too much and still allow ability to run the OS of your choosing.

They might lock this down if they want it to be super console like, guess will will see, I mean Big Picture mode seems like what they would go with, maybe a more feature rich version of that.

Speculation right now though, but he seems pretty hell bent on staying away from Windows and going with Linux.

Now everyone will think Gabe wrote Wine...

But if Valve is contributing to Wine that's cool.

A Linux based console would be nice, and will probably get bought by a lot of people who aren't that interested in the console aspect.

This plus the upcoming Ubuntu phones makes for some exciting news.
