Just switched my PC on today and it's going very slow for some reason. I checked the task manager and I don't see anythign that's slowing it down.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials. But my Windows Defender is off?? Do both need to be on?

Please help me find a better software.

Windows defender and MSE? As far as I know, MSE is the follow up of MSE?

Also, being slow can have more causes then spyware. If you want do to a complete scan, I advise something like Kaspersky Rescue Disk or another live disc. Can also scan for rootkits and stuff.

You don't need to turn on the Windows Defender, the MSE complete replaces it.
Also you don't need multiple anti virus/spyware running together any good anti-virus will detect spywares too.

Some tests and comparatives:

For single suspect files use:

Why do you think it's all about a spyware? anyway here's Ad-Aware

Why don't you try cleaning it? maybe you got some dust inside or you need to change the termic paste.

I've never opened my Alienware x51. I don't think I can. It's small. Never opened it ever. :/

You have someone asking what goo anti-spyware software is and you think this guy applying new thermal paste is the best answer?

A lot of thermal paste is not removable. Attempting to remove it could damage the system.

Especially in a laptop like OPs.

You do want to turn on Windows Defender because it gives real time spyware protection. MSE just is an antivirus.

I do feel Windows Defender is solid and you can keep that. Most of the good anti-spyware programs are the type you scan with every couple of weeks to make sure your real time protection didn't miss anything. Two good ones for that are SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes.

Also, if you notice your computer going slow, go download CCleaner and have it scan for stuff. That gets rid of all the excessive crap that can build up and bog down the computer.

Thanks. Will download. Sounds like you know what you're talking about.

Ive never heard of SuperAntiSpyware but i use malwarebytes on my family's PCs.
CCleaner is great, but always take the backup option. You may need it

SuperAntiSpyware is quite good actually. It's recommended by my work for the work from home agents and does a good enough job to meet their picky requirements.

MSE is better then SuperAntiSpyware i think. MalwareBytes is good too but don't run in the background like MSE or SuperAntiSpyware.

No, please don't install multiples. They fight each other.

I've spent hours trying to fix computers that the "More 'antivirus' = better and faster PC!!!1!" guy got his hands on.

Lol, Security Essentials is an awful anti virus. You should remove it and get a better one.
And yes, it is highly recommended that Windows Defender will be on.

Scan your computer for viruses. Maybe it is just full of crap, than you should clean your hard disks and preform disk defragmentation.

If you are running MSE it disables Windows Defender. If you use any other antivirus product it will usually either disable or tell you that Windows Defender is running and that it should be disabled if running a different AV solution.

MSE actually ranked pretty highly, even amongst paid software. Just because its made my MS, doesnt automatically make it shit.

I've been using ESET for a while. It doesn't bother me when I'm doing anything, for instance it would only scan while I am idle. Also, it disables notifications when it detects that you're playing a game.

Uses barely any resources, and is extremely configurable.

It costs about $30, but it's worth it in my honest opinion.

if you want a good spyware I'll email you some good keyloggers. just make sure to click the exe to run them. don't worry that the install wizard is in russian, just click ok for all. its nothing you need to read for it to work for me.

I've heard the NSA has good spyware working with gmail, facebook and stuff. You should really go for it!

You heard wrong. NSA doesnt need spyware infesting those services, those services hand the NSA the data freely. Of course they cant come out and say, "Yes, we, the largest data gathering services on the planet, gladly hand over all of our users datas to government organizations freely."

Or you think it works. Just like with my clients that were using Nortan. "Well it says everything is fine, why are you running a virus scan?"

Not to say you are for sure infected, or that either of those applications are bad, but nothing is 100%.
