I remember hearing about this project many years ago
I think they had an app for it on PS3 too, but I think they closed that one down or something

I used it for a while, but I wasn't sure if I was really making any impact at all... kinda surprised it's still going on actually.

Every tiny bit helps with these kinds of things. You're not going to to have a huge impact on your own, but if you and 1000 other people use it, it will be a noticeable impact.

I don't know if it's useful, but today's science is basically an idea, followed by a test with quite a few steps and ridiculous amounts of samples. For example I'm working on the huge issue of how bio-char helps bio-remediation in degraded soils, and I currently have 57 different sample for that - different concentrations, mixes with other components, mixed in different concentrations, surface-bound to eachother etc. a 10 min long test takes - unless it can be done in parallels, it takes 9.5 hours to finish. And now imagine this in cancer/HIV research with computer modelling, using probably hundreds of parallels. It makes difference, but as much difference as king a single brick can make in a whole house - it's not much on it's own, it's required to get to the next step, for help to understand how stuff work in the human system, to help new projects, etc. This is why most researches cost a lot of money and time, because they are incredible busywork because of statistics - how many parallels you need to make sure it's at least 95% sure that works, and dozens of another tests with mixing pharmaticals, treatments etc. And they took long time, this is why it can be seen from the outside that it's not making a lot of impact.
(For example I'm making the 3rd rounds of measurements with my bio-char and still barely useful - 5-6 different tests, but I needed the samples from 3 different time periods to actually be able to make, and show progress.)

I think I used this in the past, but I don't think I will join again.

I remember something like that a lot of years ago.
Maybe it is this one which is still up.
I'll have a look at it.

This is a good thing, people should however be aware that running your GPU full throttle for a larger amount of time uses quite a bit of electricity, so if you live in a country with high electricity cost you might want to think twice.

I don't do this very often any more, but I think one of you start a steamgifts team here: Create team

Heard about this couple of years back but never got the chance to test it out. Considering that I leave my PC on often to idle for cards when I'm done with Steam for the day, might as well add this to make it more useful.
Hm for some reason it works just fine in Chrome but it keeps connecting forever when I try it via client.

EDIT nvm fixed it, had to open FAHClient first.

This is popular on more tech and education focused websites. I know a few sites that have a team and they have leagues. An idling contest so to speak :P
People here mostly have no clue what it is so the poll will be a big win for 'No'.

So you just leave it on a separate window? That sounds kind of weird, I would imagine they could easily hack your cpu with this

Indeed, it's a very nice initiative. I've heard about similar projects going on and it's a pity that they do not have wide public recognition.

I already fold from time to time, here's a simple guide everyone can follow to get started, the forum offers great support as well :)

I need to reinstall it, the program won't launch anymore for me D:

I remember leaving my PS3 open for couple of days straight for something like that some years ago. I might give it a go again some time.

Will you give this a try?

Why not!

It took me around 45 min to download this 30 MB ( Pic #1 ) but i really liked to test it to know how their program/client work.

In Light mode program only use CPU and CPU usage is around 50% ( Pic #2 ) ( My CPU Model : Intel Core i7-2600K @ 3.40GHz).

Since i currently have no job and spend all my time with my PC so i think i can activate this program sometimes everyday not for points but just for a help.

So it just folds proteins by itself? The one I've heard about is called fold.it. You do the folding there and it's more like a game - it has scores and rankings.
