Maybe i shouldn't have mentioned that game. I wasn't talking about anyone in particular and I definetly didn't felt good when I gave some of those bundled games because I thought people won't enjoy them. I am saving now for borderlands 2 or torchlight 2, just because I wanna fix this bundle fuckup by giving something good for change.

You've been on a rehab?? No wonder I haven't seen you for a long time here. Are you cured now or still affected by the spirit of generosity?? ^,^

I've only given away bundle games so far (but kept happily going even after reaching the $30 contributor limit) that were games I already owned.

That said, while the automatic thanks yous on the giveaway itself did nothing for me, I was very touched by the winners who took the time to thank me for their new game. If I can't use it, I might as well make someone else happy with it.

I played CS:GO with a cool dude in competitive a while ago, was browsing steam and it said NS2 was on his wishlist and it was on sale. Went ahead and picked it up for him :P

I use gifts a lot to support the developers. Like, I really want Awesomenauts to keep getting played, but I already own it, so the best way to spread the word and support the devs is buy copies of it and give it away!

It sure does, even more so when the winner is clearly happy for his gift and gives you a heartwarming thanks. I am a little afraid I'm starting to get addicted to gifting. That feeling of generosity is intoxicating, but not good for my wallet. Though I can justify it by remembering that there are much more expensive ways to get high than gifting games here. ^^

If you mean what I said about starting to get addicted to gifting, I don't think it's much of a secret if you look at my SG profile. I didn't gift anything for two months after I joined because I was a bloody stupid leecher. After being treated so well here, the spirit of generosity slowly started to kick in and I joined the gifting. I have started to gift more and more as the time goes, but I'm still a little ashamed of having won so much more than I have given. I'm working to restore the balance, it may just take a while. ^^'

You know what I was talking about, and it wasn't gifting ^^

The way I see it, people contribute to this site in two ways:

  • Gifts.

  • Forum activity.

A leech is someone who avoids both of these contributions and focuses on entering giveaways. If you spend a lot of time in the forum but don't give away much, that's fine. It's certainly not being a leech! There's no need to feel as though you have an obligation to give gifts as well. Although after winning many gifts, it's usually nice to give some stuff back :P All of this is just my view of course. There are some who would argue against forum activity as a method of contribution. The same assholes who try to justify why they don't write a thank you after entering a giveaway.

When I was a student, I could barely afford games for myself. So don't feel you're not contributing, because you are.

I understand what you're saying, but this is more of a personal issue to me. I know people most likely wouldn't see me as a leecher, but it bugs me that I have won so much compared to what I have given. I don't see it an obligation to this community, I see it as an obligation to myself. I have gotten so many games for free, the least I could do is open up my wallet and give an equal amount back. That is what I'm intending to do, to give back as much as my monetary situation allows me.

Well good for you :) It's nice to see this sort of attitude, it doesn't get seen nearly enough on Steamgifts.

it felt just as a normal day only worse, since i caught a cold and had to go to the dentist during the time i gifted. Come to think of it, those days where ones of the worst. It must be a sign.

I disagree, my gift went to some foreign kid who didn't even say thanks. It doesn't even look like his main account because he never logs on it.
