First world problems?
You're way overthinking it. Just play when you are in the mood :)

I have something similar to that going on myself. I broke my back 2 years ago in a car wreck (no worries i can still walk! lol), and after I had the surgery to fuse three of my vertebrae together, I have had plenty of free time on my hand. I don't know why but I just cant get into almost any video game since, and its(was) getting to me. Its more of the "will", as you put it, to actually start playing the game itself because if I do start playing I still enjoy it and play for a bit. I blame some of this "lack of wanting to play a game" on justin.tv/twitch.tv lol. Instead of playing a game myself and getting that urge out of the way, I end up going onto jtv/twitch and watching others play games and the urge goes away lol. Lately I have been playing a lot of games and getting back into them so I think it was just a phase, maybe it will be for you as well.

same here, indie bundles and steam sales are wrecking me. i cant stop buying shit on steam! today peggle was on sale, despite the fact that i have 150+ other games on there and have beat maybe 30 of those, i still had to buy it

+1 Got like 2 bundles and only 20mins of gameplay on both of them sorta makes me feel bad inside.

I have about 135 games and maybe played 5 of them lol! Im currently playing a little bit of dirt 3 and disciples 2 gold. these steam sales get to me, I know i won't even play any of them but i still buy them cuz the sales are dirt cheap lol

I'm the same way, i used to game more at 20 but now six years later im more not willing to play a game sometimes and have many to finish to lol. Meeting and talking to women is where most my free time went now I guess not that its a bad thing either lol. >.>

Honestly, sometimes I get a bit burnt out on playing games for reasons unknown. But I'm usually able to rekindle this by playing a game that I'm fond of, or have good memories of. It helps me get back into the mood of playing games and generally makes me want to play some of the newer ones that I have that I haven't gotten around to yet. But, that's just me personally, I don't know if this method would work for you or not. But, I hope that you can find a gaming buddy in your son and have someone to accompany you on your gaming excursions. c: It's so much more enjoyable when you have someone else to enjoy the experience with, be it single or multiplayer.

Similar situation here, except it's that I've lost the will to play MMORPGs, rather than games in general.
I still have a lot of single-player games that I have not finished, but I'm taking my time and I love it. I love the fact that I don't have to spend hours grinding just to keep up with other players.
Besides, where would all the fun be if the games I buy keep getting completed in 3 days?
My advice would be to just take a break, don't think about how you have no time for games, think about how your games will be sitting there waiting when you do have the time.

For me MMORPG's are some of the games I most enjoy playing. I never had the need to keep up with others (although felt a little bad about it when I was in an EQ2 guild). I mainly treat them as single player games with the option of seeing and interacting with other people occasionally. With so many MMO's going free to play, I have a pretty large choice of games.
As for the games, I often think about all the games waiting for me. I buy over 1000 hours of gameplay a year, and play 100 or 200. I could play for years and never finish the games. And then I think of all the free games I'd like to play...

I used to play MMORPGs the same way, and I actually still have the will to play them, but I kind of stopped trying to interact with other people at all and when I try a new MMORPG after some time that I'm all excited about it I end up being bored of playing alone and just stop :S
For other single player games, I'm almost in the same situation. I have a lot stil waiting to be finished and feel bored just by the idea of playing them, but every now and then I "force" myself to play something I have sitting on my desktop for looooong time and half of the times I end up enjoying it and playing it continuously. The other half, I just stop and watch some tv series. :P

Everything gets stale after a while, you just need a change of pace.

I can probably play Faerie Solitaire for 10 hours without getting bored. I actually played it for a couple of hours straight. It would just have to come at the expense of sleep, of which I don't have enough even without playing games.
When I was at university doing my MSc or even when I worked but was single I could spend the night playing Heroes of Might & Magic 3 (my longest gaming session, 17 hours) or do a City of Heroes task force and just make up for the lack of sleep later, but that's just not possible now.
I certainly don't have the patience I once had, but it's much more often that I quit a game because I feel I spent too much time on it than it is because I felt bored.

Dude find some good friends to play your games with, also do not play too long. Play about 1 hour per day not longer and you will see the urge to play again, because overplaying games makes them boring, try different types of games. I.E. if you like FPS try MMORPG, it is good to play various games sometimes. ;)

It's Spring. Long days and lots to do. Let's see how you feel about gaming in November.

I think you're right. It's just that too much stuff with higher priority got into my life (namely wife and kids). But it's been going downhill for a while, and I feel bad because I keep shedding hobbies. I'd love to game, and practice more karate, and dance, and write...

I know exactly what your talking about. For probably 3 months I didnt touch my games but instead surfed the web, watched some shows or any number of other things. However I have come out of it, and am currently finishing up New Vegas after which I will probably move to either Borderlands (for the dlc), or will just roll the dice and pick one at random.

I know the feeling, maybe your son will take you back to gaming later on.
Priorities tend to change with years :)

My problem is the choices. So many games, so little time. I have alot of games that I need to work on completing. I go to my library and cannot decide what I want to play so I end up staring blankly at my library for awhile. Then with my serious ADD, I end up playing nothing and reading the SG forums instead.

Too many games and too little time... I got loads of other stuff coming at me, and I guess that's the reason why I've lost my gaming motivation.

I've lost the will to live, you don't see me complaining

I find I spend more time trading than playing the actual games

I like games, and enjoy playing them, but lately I noticed that they've been pushed enough down the list of things to do in my limited spare time that I don't get to them. Sometimes I think about playing a game, but then I decide I could do better things with my time (these things being browsing the web, watching a part of some movie or TV series, playing around with my "gaming project" in Unity, planning my HTPC, or various other things that come and go).
It's sad to me. I have these tons of games and I'm not playing any of them. I'll probably snap out of it and play something, perhaps once I'm finished with that HTPC, decide the game won't work out, or whatever. The other ray of hope is that the almost-two-year-old is showing signs of PC attraction. He can strike a nice pose behind the laptop screen, playing with the mouse and watching what happens. Perhaps there's a chance he'll take to some gaming the way my daughter hasn't, and we'll play together on the Wii or something.
