So I just woke up and the first thing I see when I turn on my phone is a mail from Steam giving me a code to access my account from a new computer. Guess what, it was a Russian ip so someone managed to enter my account even with my pass. What should I do? I fear my laptop has some kind of keylogger so I don't know if it's safe to change my password from my laptop.

Also, should I change my hotmail email to a gmail one for extra seccurity?
I also have Enhanced Steam on Chrome, not sure fi that is safe?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Scanning my pc right not and also changed my pass.

I think something similar happened and chnaged it again on my phone. Then this happened. Still my phone may be more secure than the pc.

I think you're a bit misinformed there - when you try to access steam from a different computer they will ask you for that code in addition to your password. You need to change your password because it's been hacked or whatever, but they didn't get access to your account - they just tried to and failed.

Unless you have the same password to your email account in which case you have hopefully learned to never share passwords between accounts again. Also you should use a password manager, and if you have these kinds of issues it would be advisable to use the steam app for 2fa on your phone.

Well, if he has a keylogger on his laptop the hacker might have both passwords.
I doubt it though, it takes a lot of mistakes to get a keylogger installed on your pc.

I thought it gave you that code when sucessfully entering the password. In that case then I'm not that nervous.

Also, I already have the Steam phone app so for now, I'm safe.

Yes, the password on steam is correct. But you also need access to your phone (edit: email) to be able to login to Steam.
So your Steam password is compromised. I hope youre not using the same password for your email......

EDIT:
Start using the phone app to verify the login please. Just email isnt safe enough.

Indeed, it gives that code when they successfully entered the password - but they were denied access if they did not also have the code you got in the email. In these cases steam requires BOTH.

So you should change your steam password as soon as possible, and make very much sure you use a complex password that you do NOT use on any other sites. A lot of other sites have gotten hacked and hackers have access to all those passwords and can try them all to see if the same username/email exists on steam and if they have the same password.
