According to new ESA report only 3% of gamers are considering reviews as the most important factor in their decision to buy a game. For 97% of gamers reviews are not primary factor in decision making.
And what about you? What is the most important factor when you are buying a new game?

EDIT: I wrote "For 97% of gamers reviews are irrelevant." I think it's false statement so I reworded it.

For me the most important factor is...

View Results
YouTubers
word of mouth/recommendation by friends
price
reviews in video game magazines/websites
interesting story/premise
other (please comment below)

The survey is obviously flawed if these factors sum to 100%. It means that only one factor could be chosen, which in turn means that if a factor is important but isn't considered the first factor, then it will not be counted. Price for example may be an important factor, but it rarely decides what people buy, rather it decides the timing they buy the game at.

I assume that even most people who buy based on story and premise do it because they've read somewhere what the story and premise is, and they also glanced at reviews (either user reviews, YouTube ones or from sites) to see if the game is considered any good.

Collection for now, if I don't want to play them yet. I will eventually play every single game in my library (Once I get the right equipment for making youtube videos). That's gonna be a huge playlist. xD

I read the reviews, listen to the opinions of others, watch the videos on YouTube...and then make up my own mind about whether or not I want to own a particular game. I want to know how the game plays and whether or not I will find it interesting. I don't care if other people like it. I am not shopping for them.

I gonna go with premise, and the second factor is price then followed by reviews.
Graphics rarelly got my attention, but artstyle on the other side can make me jump in without hesitation.

I get interested because concept. Game trailers usually hint at quality... for like the first 30 minutes. I peek at multiple reviews on the yay and nay sides to read between the lines and figure out if its hyped or genuinely shit. I usually end up buying when on discount.

First I watch the trailer,
then I watch the review below steam by users
if its mostly bad reviews, I end it there, if its mixed or good reviews, then I proceed to step 4.
I watch a lets play, and if I am still unsure,
then, I try the "demos".
If I like it, I buy it, if I don't, well, I don't.

meanwhile, Ign are doing reviews, that I could not careless.

Caribbean! is the newest game I have, I bought it on step 4.
It has a mixed reviews, and I have a mixed feelings about it.

Um... all of the above?
Really, I cannot priority one of those "factors" over another. They all contribute in some way (with various degrees of influence depending on the situation) to my decision on whether I would find a game fun or not. The main thing I care about in game is if it's fun. So, I guess my choice would be "Fun factor" but there's no option like that so I'll go with "Other". :P

I don't usually buy new games, 'cause I rarely can afford anything at full price and I don't have enough time to play games I already have, so I'm patient with waiting for promotions/bundles.
I choose game I want almost purely basing on story and/or art style. I don't read user reviews often, except for friends recommendations :) I look at if user reviews on steam are mostly positive or not, but it doesn't influence me that much - I can add game to wishlist even if it has mixed or negative reviews, if there's something about it that interests me.
I never read reviews in video games magazines/websites - I don't care about them at all.

Youtube/Price/Torrent
I usually see someone playing it on ze youtube then I add it to my wishlist, if I think it's worth the money then I download a torrent & see if it works, if it works then I buy it. I bought like 10 games on steam that don't even work for me, mostly because they are too old or I have to roll back my driver of my graphic card.
