Since you liked Ace Attorney, I'd definitely recommend the Miles Edgeworth spin-off. There's also a Miles Edgeworth 2, which hasn't officially been translated, but the fan translation is just perfect, so you should really try that!

I also quite liked Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, since we're talking about DS games.

If you're into Fate you could give the spin-off sequel Fate: Hollow Atarxia a try. Also, Tsukihime by the same author is pretty decent too.

And Dangan Ronpa if you want something more akin to Phoenix Wright.

999, which has been mentioned above, is great. And so is its sequel for PS Vita and 3DS, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. They are both truly amazing games with a gripping plot.

Narcissu 1st & 2nd, its on steam and its free. I would definitely recommend it.

DanganRonpa when it arrives on Steam is a MUST BUY If You like Ace Attorney. Also Higurashi when they Cry is very good. You can also have an eye on Stein's Gate, Muv-Luv and Higurashi - Umineko: When the Seagulls Cry because they will most likely appear on Steam.

And there is one AA inspired game on steam, too - Aviary Attorney. I haven't played it but it's about birb attorney so it's bound to be awesome.

Trauma Center is pretty neat too, too. And Persona. I don't know if it's VN though, but I guess. Kind of.
All those games are more interactive than I'd say visual novels are heh.
