Being disappointed by Steam's sales is as silly as being disappointed in your poop's size. Who cares, it's still poop.
Comment has been collapsed.
But your poop's size is directly correlated to weight loss. Haven't you heard of the new "increase your poop size, to lose weight".

What you do with your blacklist is none of my concern. With that said, I don't see the necessity of sharing your actions with me. Was that an attempt at getting me angry or something? :P

I don't really get this argument. What does it matter if something was bundled in the past? Sure, if I was there at the time, I would've gotten it cheaper (although probably not, since on Steam I get to use PHP instead of USD), but so what? If I was a Dutchman in 1626 I could've bought Manhattan, but since I wasn't, I didn't.

I think what she may have meant was, some people will be disappointed because they have games that they bought at a high(er) price and planned to trade/give away, and now those would have a reduced value because of the sale. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
because the trading market price for those games is usually way lower than the sale price. instead of buying in the store, you could just buy on steamtrades for a fraction of what you normally pay.

Black Friday, usually. The day after Thanksgiving in the U.S.A.
Comment has been collapsed.
There's usually a black Friday sale at the end of November too. That will probably include all the big publishers. I notice a lot of the bigger publishers don't have any discounts on games from the last year, so it might be they are hanging on until then.

It's been a good 4-5 years since the steam sales have been really amazing. Maybe I'm looking at it with rose tinted shades, but there used to be some really amazing deals during the sales, especially some of the flash sales (and pricing errors!). Steam used to be more of a niche, but now it's more mainstream (everyone has a steam account now) and they can make some mediocre deals and still make a boatload of money.
Now the real deals are with the new underdogs, GMG has had some great deals, Nuuvem (until everyone jumped on that bandwagon and they started doing the paypal region locks), etc. I really hope a new distribution system comes along to give them some competition, us gamers could really use it. GOG is nice but it's not quite there yet, Origin and Uplay, no thanks...itch.io could be better if they had more choices and better deals. Rip Desura.

I think we are all looking at it through rose-colored glasses to some degree because we have become irrevocably affected by the proliferation of bundles and their comparatively low pricing, and no store can compete with that. Perhaps it is more that we ourselves have changed and not so much the store sales. That and I also think that you, me, and everyone else on here is in a niche of their own, and we often like to fool ourselves into thinking that we somehow represent the majority but we don't.

I didnt find anything that I wanted to buy. But then again. I guess most of the "good" deals that are out there now is for games I already own.

i can dig it, but $3.74 is the lowest price it's ever been at (on the Steam store at least; all-time low (according to ITAD) was $3.69 from Direct2Drive)); could always drop in future but if you did find that extra buck and quarter, could rest assured you wouldn't have lost out on much if indeed it did and i promise there's no attitude in my tone xD

Ok, you don't seem to get it still... games are more expensive now. Steam's gotten the monopoly and now it has spread it's wings. Steam wants a higher cut, so devs won't put their games on high discounts. It's as simple as that.
You'll never get a good sale anymore. You'll get a few good sales, sure, but you won't get another good sale in the near future at least. There's no reason for Steam to stop, since they've monopolized and we, the idiot consumers, let them.

I don't see why people always feel so disappointed, and I don't think your comment is valid as it seems nothing has changed much. People are disappointed because they feel like games don't get steep sales like they used to, but it's entirely up to each developer.
People also seem to look forward to new games being 75% off, like the latest Assassin's Creed games, but they only go 50% because they're the latest in the series, where as the older installments do indeed get a 75% discount.
Again, it's up to each individual developer to choose the prices, so Steam, whether it's a monopoly or not has no say in it.

This is silly. It's the Halloween sale. When has this EVER been a major sale there? Every year it's a bunch of horror games, Costume Quest 1 & 2, and whatever else a dev somewhere decided to put in this sale because they figured they'd get squashed if they went for one of the next two big sales. The horror genre is made up of a LOT of crappy jump-scare and regurgitated zombie dreck. So don't expect to see major AAA games at deep discounts.

Well... I'm talking about the trend that Steam has set now. Do you really not remember the last summer sale?
That is the main sale that Steam has. It's as popular as the winter sale, so taking that into account, the summer sale was as bad if not a bit worse even. That just shows a trend.
Comment has been collapsed.
Next sale is typically the Black Friday Sale which is then followed shortly by the Christmas Sale. In my opinion they could skip Black Friday but this is probably some american mentality (on the other hand we have a large hole between Christmas and Summer Sale .....)
As for the disappointment: The Halloween Sale has never been big and mostly concentrated on Horror Games so you should not have awaited much. Additionally if I had to make a guess I think a lot of people have lost their feeling for the value of games. We have been swamped with bundles these past years in a way that people are looking at a 80 % discount and still have the nerve to criticise its price. The sales haven't really changed (region locks and pricing errors aside which are more technical problems). It is the attitude of the people to expect everything getting cheaper and cheaper.

Problem with sales are the same every time and I say the same thing every time...
They aren't "getting worse" you just now own more games. That Skyrim you got at 75% was a good deal 3 years ago, 20 sales later you don't notice it, its still a good sale.
Every game you own that you got in a previous "good" sale, on a similar or better offer is still a good deal, just you don't notice them.
The only time the argument had legs was when they got rid of flash/daily sales.

Daedalic Halloween Bundle, which has Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes, Gomo, Decay the Mare, Anna's Quest and SKYHILL for something like $10.46.
I've already got Harvey's New Eyes and it's set up to remove the price of that game for me. Overall discount for me was 82% off, and there's five games there by a company that's known for putting out good stuff.
