Hello everyone, this is a question about a hypothetical scenario that has not happened yet, but might happen.

I'm giving away something that is the GOTY edition, it is worth 15 USD and includes base game + 5 DLCs. There is a 50/50 chance the key is a duplicate, but I have a replacement, except it's not the GOTY edition directly, but separately like this -> I have 2 keys which unluck
---> 1 key unlocks base game (worth 10 USD)
---> sedond key unlocks 5 DLCs (worth 5 USD)

So my question is: If the GOTY edition turns out to be duplicate, can I compensate my winner (if the winner agrees with this) by giving them the two keys for game + DLCs (so they get EVERYTHING they would have gotten in the GOTY) and it's worth the same amount of money as well as same contributor value (CV). Can they mark it as received in this case?

Does this break any rules? Can I get myself and my winner into trouble by attempting it? Should I just request a deletion of the giveaway if the GOTY is duplicate?

Thanks in advance to any kind experienced users who might reply.

EDIT: thanks to everybody for your help, the conclusion is that I should request to delete if the key does not work. I will do that, and in the meantime hope the key will work
EDIT2: I'm closing this, as I think I know enough now. The best thing to do is delete the giveaway, since the punishment of one lost GA slot is not so huge, and I could harm my winner more by replacing it with a different package, even if contents are the same. Thanks everyone

AFAIK the only thing that matters that whatever content is in the package you're making the giveaway for, it has to be activated on winner's account in the end. It doesn't matter how many activations / keys it takes.

I think the problem about that is the maybe because of different steamIDs for the packages the "win" could not be correctly counted and therefore would lead to a "not activated" on the winners account. I am not 100% sure about this tho since I don't have deeper knowledge about the checks that controls this and how much leeway there is (since SG has some problems with the detection of DLCs in general).

yes, that's exactly my concern, I guess only mods would be able to answer this one... I guess I will just ask the winner to allow me to delete if it goes south

thank you for replying, I'm asking because I don't know if and how steamgift mods check if the keys get activated to the account of the winner, because I don't want to get them in trouble - this way it will not appear in library as GOTY

Which game is it? Someone here will be able to interpret the SteamDB listings for the packages to give you an answer.

I've created a giveaway for this https://steamdb.info/sub/13357/
and I have keys for this https://steamdb.info/sub/7465/ + https://steamdb.info/sub/25740/

I think it will be easier to just request a deletion (if it comes to that at all, maybe the GOTY will work)

Also it kinda depends if the GOTY changes later. In which case you might need to fill it later.

On other hand with collections on Steam I think rule was that it had to match what was on Steam at time. So if new DLC were added later, they weren't considered.

thanks for replying, game was released in 2011 so i doubt it. I'm only concerned if the winner will get flagged as "did not activate for their account" and get suspended because of me. I will probably just ask the winner to let me delete if that happens, don't want to cause any problems

okay thank you. but won't it be a problem even if the GOTY key works, if there are two seperate IDs for it? One ID is for the GOTY sold on Steam, which is what steamgifts offers as an option to select, and my key is a retail GOTY, the retail GOTY has a different ID than the Steam store

SteamDB lists apps included in different editions, including some (most?) GOTY editions. For example The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt GOTY includes the main game identified as app 292030. It is my understanding, but I hope, that someone else will also confirm if, that making a GA for the normal Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (which is app 292030) and giving instead GOTY Edition will not cause any problems, as GOTY activates this app among 19 other. So careful checking of SteamDB should be enough for "downsized" GAs.

You started giveaway in the section "Delete giveaway if key is not work", so everyone already understands the risks, and if the key is used, as happened to me once, the winner publishes in the giveaway comments that he agrees to delete it, and that's it. This is better than changing keys because it can have negative consequences for the winner, even if you did it with the best of intentions. Deleting a giveaway will reduce the number of how many new simultaneous giveaways you can make, but that is not so big deal?

Yeah, I know, I just wanted to know if this is allowed, since I have these keys anyway, but I see that it's safer to just delete it. Also can I run out of giveaway slots, or does it just stop at 1 simulatanous giveaway? I have 7 slots available at the moment, could it happen that I get to 0 after some deletions and can't make more giveaways? Or does it just stop at 1?
