No giveaway, if that's all you're here for then I'm sorry. Since I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate and will probably be asking more experienced players multiple questions about it, I figured I'd start a thread. The SGBG thread, I suppose!

So further to the last two question, the game is working fine and I have decided upon my party. Basically going for a standard Me, Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir party. I am either going to duel class myself, or Imoen later (as we're both thieves) so any suggestions on good duals is fine. (my stats are basically 18 across the board - charisma which was my dump stat - so I'm good for any task).

Anyway, my new question is what awesome equipment could I go off and get now that I've done the Nashkel mines and got Dynaheir (meaning neither Jaheira, nor Minsc is getting impatient). I've got Viscona for Minsc, which I found while exploring but feel the rest of my party members are lacking in the weapon department.

Currently my character is on swords (I like swords...)
Imoen uses a short bow
Khalid is using a long sword +1
Minsc is using Viscona
Jaheira has a sling and a staff +1
and Dynaheir has a sling +1.

I also have backup bows for me, Khalid and Minsc so we can all range, but what stuff is freely available in the world I might not know about?

Thanks again and GO FOR THE EYES, BOO! GO FOR THE EYES!

After Imoen hit level 7 thief dual class her to mage. She makes a really awesome mage. In BG II she will start off as a thief/mage dual class character.

Ooh! Thanks for the suggestion. I'd totally forgotten Imoen could be dual classed. I shall probably go that.

NOO dont do that thats a waste - really; Imoen is a good thief and u always a good thief so keep her as it is. Best mage ingame is Edwin who is in Nashkel, but since i see u are composing "good" party i recommend rescuing Miscs copartner Dynaheira who's second best mage in BG. She is located in the Gnoll Stronghold (the most SW map).
You will also need cleric or druid and Jaheira is good if u can stand her :P but if i were u i would let her get killed (so u can keep Khalid) and pick up Branwen (for good parties-pick up in Nashkel Carnival) or Faldorn later on or Viconia (for evil parties).
Garrick is bard and bards are useless in low levels (this means whole BG1) so i suggest u dump him and get someone else.
One thing u need to remember in BG is to have missile weapon for every partymember and ofc use it :P. When enemy comes closer switch your fighters (tanks) to melee.

Thats about it if u need smt just ask i played BG1 through about five times and now im doing my sixth playthrough so u can imagine i know just about anything there is in BG1 :P

Well you seem to know your characters. Quick question, as a 'good' party (and I'm chaotic good - so my sense of good is somewhat skewed) is there any way I could keep Edwin without him leaving? Been hearing a lot about the character (and the fun I can have with him and the Girdle of Gender) that I'd really like to add him to the party.

Also, my character is a thief, if I keep Imoen as a pure thief is it worth my while dual-classing my character in something else? (I read a lot about how you should start as fighter/paladin but...well...I'm a thief...!) but I don't want a spread-too-thin party.

You can keep him as long as you don't get your reputation over 18. Evil characters will leave if you go to 19 or 20.
You could of course do 1 good and 1 evil playthrough ;)

oh well if u are a thief then i see no reason to keep Imoen (other than that she is your half sister). If i were u i would probably dump her somewhere on the way and pick smb else. That smb could anybody (Kivan?) or u could just keep free place and lvl up faster.
To keep Edwin in the party u must watch your reputation which must not rise above 15 (same goes for other evil characters like Viconia - best cleric ingame). To keep reputation low u can kill lonely civilians - (so that u wont turn whole town hostile). There is also an issue between Minsc and Edwin so u might want to temporarily dump one of them before going to Gnoll Stronghold. Also u cant have Dynaheira and Edwin in the same party.
To observe your reputation check your Records screen where all other stats are.

My good party consisted of Imoen, Kivan, Branwen, Minsc and Dynaheir.
Since I was a fighter Minsc, Kivan and myself were the front line with the rest as support.

Worked really well :)

I have considered getting Kivan, too. What are his advantages.

His main advantage is that he has hight str and dex, making him the best archer in the game if that's how you want to use him. Ranged attack are really powerful in BG 1 (like norfar mentioned already).

Remake on Steam or the classic version, be it from GoG or disc?

I've had the discs for the second Baldur's Gate, but one of the discs won't work during installation and I haven't bothered to try getting it resurfaced. Also have some other D&D games on disc, most are still unplayed. Someday...

You definitely should give it a try! BG2 might be the best rpg I've ever played :o

I'm just in no hurry, partly because while I like the dialog options in Bioware games, the rest of the gameplay I tend to find lacking and often off putting. I'm currently replaying Knights of the Old Republic for the Nth time and back at the Undercity, which tends to be my quitting point.

Playing the GoG version but via GamersGate (they use the same installs, apparently).

Never finished the second one, always reroll my character for some reason or i missed some quest(those you must do in less than a week with no warning)then quit the game.

I'm using a mage and Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir (the companion that Minsc wants to save) and I'm pretty much ok at the moment (chapter 5).

One thing though, be quick to reach Nashkel because if you don't Jaheria and Khalid will eventually go away and you can't get them back (Jaheira complains are actually warning of that)!

I'm nearly done with Beregost sidequests, so will be heading to Nashkel soon. :)

Otherwise, good to hear a party like that does just fine, because it may end up as mine! :)

Seeing as I have the game but haven't started playing it yet (due to a far too big backlog of games & also final exams), I shall bookmark this thread for future purposes :3

Once your finals are done, finish what games you have to do and get BG on the go. It's so amazing! :)

So what party did you go with?

Playing a generic Imoen, Khalid, Jaheira, Minsc and Dynaheir party. They're doing alright, although Khalid apparently has an allergy to woodland creatures because he's an absolute tank against anything that isn't a wolf, dog or bear - if it's them, he ALWAYS gets hit.

Got my party in the OP (I'm editing it as I go along :P) basically now I want suggestions of good weapons and equipment I can go pick up. At the moment I am basically exploring one map segment at a time, seeing all of it, trying to do everything in it, then moving on. But this is proving inefficient!

Surround him with summoned junk? It's been so long I can't even remember. But doesn't someone turn up later to take the stuff back? Oh well, good luck! :)

I went with lake abuse :P Tried every 'legit' strategy going but I was just too weak and low level.
