I hate trains... Always late and too expensive...

I love it.
There is usually a very good atmosphere, jokes and others. It is like participating in a party.
The "normal draws" are a bit bland, no comments

Why that question?
Community trains are an absolute highlight, but this year it was a bit of a mixed bag to have two of them. I participated in both but wasn't really into the 2nd one. I think one big community train per year should be enough for SG.

It was because two people did one each and we didn't communicate whatsoever. Fiddler didn't even know mine existed until someone pointed it out to him ;-;

Yes I know, but had the impression that Fiddler kinda neglected that train. He was online at that time and should have noticed it, but yeah I dunno.
However, I love them and it's a good way to get the community involved with each other. ;)

I like the community trains, I usually check them every couple of days to enter some neat giveaways, sometimes I even add a couple of cars.
Though I agree with heyday up there. Might be better if there's just one huge train each year rather than having multiple of them, wasn't enjoying the second train all that much for some reason O.o

I'll probably let Fiddler do it instead, unless he doesn't by October then I'll try or someone else will

I usually notice there is a community train when it's one week remaining. Then i get bored clicking over hundreds of carts.

Joined all of them so far, won 0 games but I still enjoy them, it's a nice way of coming together I guess ^^

I like them, they are fun and create a good atmosphere for the community. I find myself comment more on them than in normal giveaways, though agree that there should only be one a year so that it has a more special feel.

I love them... except if the same single user, that has me on his BL, enters it in like 20-30 places, constantly breaking the train for me. I would really appreciate, if contributors were limited to creation of 3-4 batches of wagons per train.

Honestly would make it too annoying to enforce properly but I can understand part of the point

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I wouldn't expect the community train initiator to actively enforce it, but I would expect, that including it in train's guidelines would just stop folks from such behavior.

You'd expect wrong then lol, some people don't read. Others make slight mistakes (hence some derailing). It could be included in the rules, but I think it would be overlooked for the most part. Heck, if it wasn't for some of the more awesome people around SG, I would've missed some of the derails such as point limits. Still, maybe the next creator will put it in their rules assuming they read your comment and I doubt the next creator will be me, so pray and hope I guess

I mean if we're talking about "community" trains, I feel BLs are kind of the opposite of the spirit the train is trying to accomplish. "Let's have a big old party and invite everyone! Except you. I don't like you." So yeah, agreed (though I'd rather folks just didn't BL if they're contributing to community events).

If people want to make giveaways, then let them do it, I'd say. It's a fun thing that incentivises giving

Worth for some people's descriptions and some funny-witty extra. Good giveaways are also neat :P I generally don't like trains because most of the time it gives nothing extra, just makes tedious to get through them as first world problem I own/not want maaany of them. But community train is pretty okay. Love it when there are big forward links to I can get through it fast if I read the desc.

Also I love how there's always interesting discussion sprouting here and there in the giveaways, it makes it interesting:)
Of course I also like participating with some of my own GAs!

Nice descriptions and a good bunch of nice people but too big and the community of gifters are then around 30, 10 of them do 90% of the "community" train [many thanks to them], and the people that take are the same as 1 year before with the same or worst statistics.
Yes hard seen because it gave the normal users too but with each community train i see lesser activity of DIFFERENT users.

As a good example i can say that i have nearly 1k users at my blacklist, normaly only level 2+, and needed only to go around 4 or 5 carts in the last community trains. That let me think.....

The only thing I don't like about community train is that when it comes to end - it's no longer community train.
It's like - this train IS MINE!!!1!!1! Hur dur. THIS is the last cart because I say so xD

waste of time. not the event itself, that's pretty amazing, but trains filled with $1 bundles are pointless.

Maybe they need to train more to get higher quality stuff

The 2300 carts train this year was freaking awesome!
Even though I didn't win anything, I'd love it if such an event was hosted every month instead of once a year.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The 4500 one was even better ;) The monthly would be cool but not only would there need to be multiple hosts (probably) but people would run out of giveaways barring dollar bundles pretty fast. I used up my stock on Com train 3 and 4, which meant I gave like nothing in 5. If they were every month, it'd just be a lot harder to handle for everyone, especially since they last the full month anyways.

Overall I like this kind of events, but I'd prefer "quality over quantity" way for it. As in, I'd like if previously free games were not allowed, and maybe even minimum points price increased (maybe 10 instead of 5). I see no reason to click through tons of free game giveaways just to find one brilliant GA.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Those are both reasonable, and I could see the 10 thing happening. The free games is much harder since the creator (and others I guess) would have to search for any time that game was free, but it would also be kinda pointless if it was humble free. I had warned a humble free game since it happened in the middle of my train but I didn't want to derail the train multiple times.

No, they are marked as "**" on giveaway creation page. Of course it is possible that game will become free, or added to the free list, in the middle of the train, but that's a forgivable exception.

What I meant was some free games couldn't be kept as free since expiry dates. Now I see you meant any games that have ever been free should be excluded, that makes a lot more sense tbh. Yeah, that could work

I like em, brings the community together and it's fun to contribute to a group effort. I think maybe the frequency has been a little too often, leading to less carts on the last train. Also agree with some of the sentiments that the standard of quality for giveaways could be a little better, but I still enjoy taking part.

lol 2 trains was kinda an accident, but also canis is right the last one had over double of mine. Maybe you're thinking of train 3, which had 4500. 4 had 1326 while 5 had 2300

I love them because I can lowkey identify the people who blacklisted me, and I always find one or two new one to add to my txt file. As for the train itself, I like them, but I dont participate at the discussions too much, so its just one big line of games that eat up my points

nothing really, just playing guessing games who did it, and most likely why he did it. I'm checking if I made a comment on a thread made by them, won a game from them previously, or discussed anything that might have connection with the blacklist. Its for personal amusement mostly

Community trains are great. They shouldn't be too frequent, though. 2-3 times a year is OK. It's nice to feel that it's a community holiday and rare fun event!
