I don't know if any of you remembers when steam used to show people which are actually online, "offline".
It happened like 1-2 years ago and i think it's starting on some of us once again, my friend is online and actually messaging me, but it shows that he is offline.
Anyone having the same issue?

Experienced this one or two times, fixed with setting status on purpose or restarting client.

Can't you hide your online status though?

Nope, that's not possible. If you change your status to offline, you can't see your friendlist and are forced to go online again.

This feature is being requested for years.

I seem to remember being able to do that at one point...weird.

Yes, just sign out from the Friends messenger thingy. Friendlist can still be viewed by going to Friend Activity > View All Friends in the Steam client.

I'm always playing as offline these days, especially when I don't want to be disturbed in Skyrim!

You still get achievements if you do this? Since you are connected but with offline status to friends.

Why wouldn't you get them? You're still online on Steam otherwise.

Yeah no problems getting achievements. The only time I go online on Friends List is when I'm about to play a multiplayer game or MOBAs.

I am just curious, what if you change your status offline at steam and then go to website log in there and send message from there? What status you will have? Because as I have seen you also can send messages through browser
