That's like comparing apples and oranges; both of them are good but they're rather different. Sure they're FPSes and involve zombies, some of which with special abilities, but that's really about it.

I agree. The gameplay isn't like each other at all. In L4D Versus Mode even more.
I like both games, but I think L4D is more fun in Versus mode than KF in Coop.

I agree. People need to stop comparing games. You'll find that every game is more enjoyable when you don't look at every aspect of a game in comparison to another.
Both games are good, but they are different styles of games where the only real similarity is that they are co-op shooters that have zombies in them. By that logic L4D and CoD zombies are the same game.

I just wish Killing Floor had a single player and co-op story mode. Just single games gets boring and repetitive very fast even with so many different maps.
Also the weapons in killing floor all have the same feeling to them and theres not many choises for different weapons within each perk. Though the last update did bring a lot of new weapons which was awesome.

Killing Floor. L4D got old for me -fast-. I wasn't happy with L4D2 being released only a year later, so I didn't play that for yonks. And when I finally did, I... well... No sir, I don't like it.
Killing Floor though, always fun to come back to. Some of the most satisfying shooting ever, imo. Oh, and KF actually has proper mod support. (Can't DL maps within the game in L4D? Derp.)

Owning both L4D games plus Killing Floor I've got to say I've had more fun in KF than in both of L4Ds together.
L4D 2 just falls into the same repetitive formula the first one had, but with a worse atmosphere and a more cartoon-looking set of weaponry (which is limited to about 7 ~ 9 weapons). All you do throughout the game is go from safehouse, to safehouse, to safehouse, and finally get to the rescue mission. This is every official campaign there is, really. The main online Co-op gameplay can be considered more of a race of "who gets to the safehouse first", since the game isn't that hard to play completely solo since all "Zombies" die fairly easily (If you're not playing on expert, which is more of an annoyance since it only boosts the amount of damage you take).
Killing Floor manages to keep balance of co-operation between the players by making the game undoubtedly difficult, it's a game about shooting all kinds of weaponry into wave after wave of all kinds of fucked up enemies. There are many, many zombies per wave and the players have to count on their partners and on the level layout so they can make out of the game alive. All players are given a welder tool which can block off doors and equivalent, which allows the players to "barricade" entries and change the flux of incoming enemies. Killing enemies grants you money ( £ £ £'s), and at the end of each wave a shop opens at a random location of the map, and players are directed to it. There they can change their specializations and buy all sorts weapons, ranging from rifles to shotguns, flamethrowers to swords and revolvers to crossbows, along with ammo and body armor.
The game can be pretty challenging and if you get surrounded once or twice it may mean death. Increasing the difficulty setting increases the amount of enemies, along with their health, depending on the setting you've picked. The game comes with a military-ish rank-up system that improves the handling of whatever weapons are included in the perk, and ranking up takes quite a bit of time, which is a motivation to play the game more casually once in a while. I've clocked over 200 hours on this motherfucker.
TL;DR: KF came out before L4D1, has more weapons than L4D2 and has a better replayability than both combined.

I haven't played Killing Floor, but I must say my experience with L4D2 is very different from everyone else. I play it Singleplayer with a controller on normal difficulty, sometimes even on easy. Yes, the gameplay gets repetitive but I mostly play it for the atmosphere which Killing Floor seems to be lacking.
But KF seems like a more fun gameplay-experience, so I'll definitely will check it out now that its a free weekend :)

I agree... FPS on controllers is a pain in the back.

comparing KF to L4D is like comparing BF3 to Lemmings, they're COMPLETELY different games!

Killing Floor: For the fear and for the gore.
L4D: For co-op fun with friends and for the griefing.
Also, KF is a game to be played in all seriousness with some laughs here and there, but mostly it's fair co-op and very serious. It's still totally fun, and much, much harder than L4D.
L4D is much more laughable and funny and provides a great 'shits and giggles' experience. Don't get L4D if you don't have friends to play it with.
