is this good?
Seems like this is part of the "on the house" promotions so it'll be free for some time, no need to rush.

Yeah, just got it myself and like the last time it went free it was only free for a few hours.
So you better grab it now just in case it is gone tomorrow.

Is there any difference between the Origin version and the Steam one?
Edit: Damn, forgot all about the various DLCs and bloody Bioware points.

No cards & achievements.
Still played it on steam (have it on Origin, too).

Ah well. I had ME2 on Steam but hadn't installed it yet. Maybe that's why it wasn't registered with Origin yet or does it show up as a 2nd entry then?
Anyway, thx for the info.

Steam > Library > Search mass effect
over on the right select CD Key then copy to clipboard
Origin > Origin > Redeem Product Code and then paste
OR
Origin > View > Library > Mass Effect > Game Properties > (gear icon) > Properties > CD Key
copy then paste into Steam > Games > Activate a product code on Steam

After testing, the keys that you get from this promotion do not work on steam form origin, maybe if you originally purchased it then it would work?

Recently finished it, awesome game. I recommend the FOV fixer through: https://hamstergene.github.io/post/fixing-mass-effect-fov/

same and I guess I was right since I remember posting on the old one that I had a feeling that this was going to be the next game on the house and I guess when it went free the first time probably was a mistake and it went early.

Thanks for the heads up, got it - I was waiting for get 2 before I played 1 :-)

I had it for years from a Steam sale before finally playing it.
I had no idea how good it was (the authors have multiple award winning games & books).
Origin has about 1 free game every month or 3.
Several Steam games can be redeemed on Origin by looking up the game > CD Key on Steam and then entering it into Origin but I strongly prefer Steam - really only using Origin for Mass Effect 3 co-op.

man i never knew it ever was free. such a BIG title for free, hats off to origin for doing this. Much like most of us allrdy are hats off to ubisoft as well for what they just finished doing ^^

I am Commander Shepard and this is my favourite Popoto on the Citadel!
Awesome timing, I'm definitely doing a replay of the trilogy before Andromeda(hopefully with my save playing some role there) so now I'm only missing 3 which I've finished on console

In the original trilogy yeah, you import your save files so your character, your relationships, skills, level etc all move over. Even if you don't have it though the 3rd one asks you to input your prefered outcome of some scenarios from the previous games, don't remember about the second.
However Andromeda is separate from the other 3 so I'm not sure if you can even import your old save and if you can what effect it has.

probably not, as it will play in some other time frame (at least what I heard)

For some reason Origin won't let me grab this, if I click on the Play Now link under the announcement in the Origin client, I get taken to the About On The House page, otherwise it's only showing me Dungeon Keeper as the On The House game...

I think so, but you should also know beforehand that people who finish ME1 can transfer their save/character/(maybe) choices and continue to ME2 and then those from ME2 to ME3. I don't think it matters if someone has a mix of origin and steam games (they might want to know where the save file is). But yeah playing this as a standalone should be fine too. In fact I think it has better user reviews on metacritic than the first one.

Yes, there's a point in a shuttle where they will ask you what you 'remember' doing in ME1 and it covers the major plot points but it will be harder because your character will be lower level. (you can choose difficulty levels without losing story)
There's also a DLC that you can use to pick more plot points from ME1.
The games have many paths that are mutually exclusive so playing them though multiple times is much more common than with most other games.
