I have been trying to join Gotham City Impostors f2p giveaways, for the premium dlc. However it says that I'm missing the base game. I just loaded it back up and resynced my account, however I still have the same problem.

Does/did anyone else have a similar issue with a suitable fix? Or is it a recent bug with steamgifts?

Well, judging by the 188 entries I can see on a GA, it does not seem something others are experiencing. I don't know if there is a certain minimum amount of playtime required for you to count a F2P game as 'owned'.

Did you play the game before resyncing? Or just downloaded it?

I did play it before resyncing to add some playtime.

How much time do you have on the game itself?

Well you only have .2 hours on record. SO that kind of explains it.

Edit: I have .7 hours on record and I entered the giveaway just fine.

Well, I've entered the giveaways before with only 0.1 hours for another game. Dungeons & dragons online, and LOTRO both as I didn't play them through steam.

Hmmm, I honestly don't know. Go ahead and submit a support ticket.

I think maybe you should play the game more, then it might work.

This is kinda annoying. Playing a f2p game before being elegible to join DLC giveaways makes no sense. Why should f2p games be any different from any other game in this regard? Everyone owns the game, so just remove the missing-base-game-feature from all f2p games, please.

  • Way to necro.
  • What is the point in entering if you don't play it?
  • Its based on Steam, it needs to show up on your account.

Would you prefer that I created a new thread about the same exact problem with the same exact DLC? By replying to this thread it is clear that this is a general persisting problem and not one that only affects me. Steamgifts already has plenty of threadstarters... And the thread is only 3 weeks old.

Maybe the DLC would be a reason to start playing the game? Maybe it has features that I, subjectively, find to be an essential part of the gameplay?

Yes, it currently works that way. I am clearly well aware of that. I am also aware that this doesn't have to be this way if a change is made so that all f2p DLC is treated as a separate game, which is exactly what I am proposing...

This thread already had an answer to the question, your post here wasn't required at all. You are complaining about how Steam accounts work to show what you have.

Try the game. Find out if you even want to play it. The people who are entering know they want to.

The answers in this thread are all, including yours, completely irrelevant in relation to my suggestion about how f2p DLC is handled.
I am not seeking answers in any way, shape, or form, I am making a suggestion to fix a known mechanism that some users view as an error. A suggestion that people can either agree or disagree with and if the majority of people agree, maybe a change should be considered.

You keep talking about how Steam operates, but I am quite sure that the change I am suggesting is a viable option and that it can be implemented if deemed necessary.

And with that logic all games with a demo on Steam should require you to install and play that before entering...

Here is how SG works. It checks your profile. If it can find the base game there, you can enter.

It does this for every DLC.

Such a shame that you don't have any play time in the game you want to play. But wait, how do you know you would even want it? GO PLAY THE DAMN GAME, PROBLEM FIXED.

lol

Don't be absurd.

cg needs to reprogram the site immediately, so that people aren't forced to go through the tedious inconvenience of playing games they aren't interested in, in order to enter DLC giveaways.

With all due respect, you don't have a great track record for playing the games you've won anyway (8+ months down the track, two thirds of them remain unplayed). Are you even sure you want to enter for these giveaways when you've never played the base game?

Why not just be happy that most of these will go to people who actually have some sort of passing interest in playing them?

Unless you have played the games you've won for a minimum of 164 hours in total I still have a higher average per won game than you do. Besides some of us have other things to attend. This however says nothing about whether or not I intend to play the games when I do have the time.

In any case it shouldn't be necessary to make a personal evaluation of me as a user specifically to estimate whether or not the suggestion I made is a good idea in general, which is the only thing I wanted to know - But so far none of the replies to my post have really been focusing on this directly.

I am not responding to any more replies, this is a waste of time. I will ask support directly to think about it instead.

No need. cg is well aware of how he setup DLC giveaways for F2P games. It is intentional.

Aside from the fact that I have most certainly exceeded this figure on my games won, the solution here is ludicrously simple, and involves no more than actually playing the game for a modest amount of time.

My point, as I'm certain you have grasped, is why enter for DLC giveaways if you can't manage something as trivial as this? There are already far too many games given away on here which languish forgotten in users' libraries and never get played. Why actively change the website to increase the possibility of this happening? There are already too many selfish morons who enter for stuff they don't even have the slightest interest in playing (I'm not talking about users with backlogs, who will get around to playing eventually - I mean people who will flat out never play the game), and I see no value in facilitating them or their behaviour.

What we are trying to tell you is that it is a stupid idea. Is there something wrong with knowing if you like the game first?
