I still play Master of Orion 2 with DOSBOX but I think I'll be getting this. The Collector's Edition + Revenge of Antares Race Pack.

Thanks for the heads up, I might have missed this.

the new game is so-so. It's more like a remake of the second game, rather than a sequel, but it's closer to a knock-off.

I enjoyed it, but it's not on the same level as the original

Wow. Thanks for this! MOO (the first one) was the game that introduced me to the space 4x genre, and I'm pretty sure I've played every one that has come out since. MOO2 is still my favorite after all this time. Looks like it's time for a nostalgia run.

It is strange. I have Master of Orion 1 (If i look on the pack):
but when I click on DLC for Master of Orion and then click on the link to the main game from DLC I see I dont have main game:

Not sure how to understand this situation and if I would but whole pack I would also have this main game or not?

Ok I think I understand it. I need to buy main game separately and this is only a upgrade and additional games? And first i misunderstand that it is whole MoO pack.

Master of Orion 1 and Master of Orion 2 are the classic games from 1993 and 1996. You seem to own these two games. You seem to not own Master of Orion 3 from 2003 and the newer Master of Orion from 2016 plus its DLC.

Your screens are from the "Collector's Upgrade" which doesn't include the main game Master of Orion from 2016. They have done this weird thing where the main game is not the first thing on its store page.

Since unfortunately these are not "Complete your set" packs, if you wanted to get the whole thing, it would still be cheapest to get the Collector's Edition (not the "Upgrade") and the Revenge of Antares Race Pack:

Thank you, I'll def pick up at least the classics. I never played MoO2 even though a very similar game from the same era, Imperium Galactica has been one of my all time favourites. Hopefully it will be a nice experience even without the nostalgia goggles.

if you can get past the ancient graphics and clunky interface, it's still the best space 4X ever created.

Every major 4X today is still trying to beat it.

I'm with dingbat on that one. Master of Orion and especially the 2nd one pretty much defined the genre. If you can handle a bit of oldschool clunkiness, you'll probably still get sucked in.

Can confirm this as well I STILL play Moo2 on dosbox. And Imperium was a good game as well back in the day (more fun with others humans though) After reading the reviews on the 'newer" version, it sounds like MOO2 is still better

MoO 3 was (IMO) pretty good with mods [and terrible without]. There were all kinds of unofficial patches going on.

I agree. If someone wants to try MoO3, definitely get one of the "MoO3 Unofficial Patch Mod". At least the Vanilla one to fix a lot of the bugs. Strawberry adds a lot of cosmetic and QoL changes. And Tropical adds new content and gameplay changes on top of that. These and a lot of other mods can be found here:

No, that's a clown page with mods that nobody has updated in 15 (!) years.

I dunno if anyone has developed new MoO 3 stuff in since like 2007, but moo3.at does not even have the newest 2006 versions.

Steam forums f.ex. have random discussions about what to install and how:

"Clown" seems a bit harsh but it does seem abandoned. "Danib's mediafire" which they refer to in that Steam forum thread seems to be this one:

https://www.mediafire.com/?bab6i5ezwj6u1

It has some newer versions but one of them is also marked as being infected with a virus. And it seems like it won't be easy to find installation instructions.

From Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars FAQ at Steam Discussion:

"4) How do I redeem my code to get Total Annihilation?
a. Please launch Master of Orion and go to the Options Menu
b. Once you are in the Options menu at the bottom (above the back to main menu button) you will see the options to click on Wargaming.Net Account. Clicking on it will bring up
c. Clicking on it will bring up the option to “Get a Redeem Code for Total Annihilation”
d. Clicking on the Redeem Code button will popup a window which you can copy or write down the code from.
e. Once you have the code, please open up your steam client and under the Games dropdown menu click on “Activate a Product on Steam…”
f. Follow the instructions and once you reach the Product Code window, simply type in the code you copied/wrote down and Total Annihilation should show up in your library!"

Has anyone tried this still works?

Probably not. It hangs at this point (see image) after clicking on "Wargaming.Net Account" in "Options" and I can only ALT-F4 out of the game.

However, Total Annihilation is also just 0,74€ / $0,74 on Steam right now, which is also 85% off and a historical low:

It was $0.26 in 2015. Doesn't really matter at this point though since it's so cheap and likely won't hit that price again

You're probably referring to https://isthereanydeal.com/game/totalannihilation/info/ . If you look closer, that was just for a few seconds and most probably an error. See also the attached screenshot.

According to https://steamdb.info/app/298030/ and https://gg.deals/game/total-annihilation/ this is currently a new historical low in every country and currency. SteamDB has it at 0,00€ / $0,00 and "no discount" for a very short amount of time on the same date in 2015. Most probably there was a configuration error that got fixed again real quick.

They did give away Total Annihilation for free on GOG in 2020 though:

Be aware that the CE does not include the 3 race DLCs from the Revenge of Antares Race Pack, in case you want the whole shebang:
