I know many of you won't even recognize my username, either due to the fact that I've only been here for 3 months or because I'm mostly a lurker rather than a poster (as evident by my total comments). I figure since this is the only forum I regularly get on, and sometimes even contribute to, I'd say bye for now to everyone. I'm going to be at Army basic training for the next 9 and a half weeks.

If anyone has ever served their country I'd like to know what training was like for you. I'll let you all know what my experience is like when I get back.

Edit: I just wanted to say thanks to everyone wishing me luck, I didn't expect to get as many positive responses as I did. You guys are all great!

I'm a Veteran of the Navy myself. Basic training was... Well, hard. If you're not used to the demands of something like that, and most people are not, it's a whole new world for you. It is very stressful and you will regularly be pushed to your limits, but the one thing to keep in mind is that no matter how physical it all seems, its mostly mental. They will toy with you, they will mold you in their image. And so long as you can handle what is demanded of you, you will become a better person in the end for it. Good luck~

Basic Training is mostly a mind game. They break you down to build you up. Congrats on the career choice and good luck.

I don't understand why you would say that. No one is forcing me to join to army, it is what I am choosing to do as it is the smartest career choice I have and will help me advance in life more than any other option I currently have.

He probably thought that you've got enlisted by force. Army being evil is a different thing though, some people might imagine a world where we don't need armies and can spend all the money that is being put in the arms race and the upkeep of all the soldiers/missions on hospitals or education.

Or anything actually useful for mankind for that matter.

But hey, that's just me being utopian, sadly we need armies and is as good of a career choice as any. As long as it's not invading other countries that is.
