This. The first AoE was the first game I played, well before I had access to Internet and I could choose between very few games. The second one, though, is probably what forged me as a gamer.

Never tried it, to be honest, even though I bought it twice. When it came out, I was playing BG, but the mods were not compatible, so I just got it to support the entire premise of porting older great games to new systems. While I maintain that games should be played, som in my library will never be, as I played them enough years ago, but I wanted to finally own a legit copy to make up for it.
I just think it is way too new to be considered to any kind of "still good as in old times" type award. (This is also I am smiling when I see people dropping in 2-4 year old games, as if that would be something ancient. I wouldn't even consider anything under 10 years old.)

Yup Deus EX was my choice too. If they had no one lives forever that would have been top prize, but deus ex was also ahead of its time in so many ways and with mods it is still very playable today.

Maybe I overthought it, but I picked Terraria, despite of it not being too old - still fun, the game's content got expanded to crazy dimensions and they update it even recently - still can show new stuff for players, just like it did on the first day.
It's really hard for me to ignore aspects of games that don't old too well, and because of that I can't really pick an old-old game

Wanted to pick the original C&C, but since they only have RA3 on Steam (I don't consider C&C4 a game), I went with my second choice which was Counter-Strike 1.6

Go on, I wanna hear about your nominations! Every person has that one game which they play to this date, and I figure seeing the choices of other people might motivate me and hopefully others as well to try out new games, which would be pretty excellent, having made it into this category.
I was torn between Deus Ex GotY and Unreal Tournament 1999 GotY, but ultimately voted Unreal because of the sheer replay-ability. I own the original collector's edition on CD which bought in 2001, and since then I have dumped more than 6000 cumulative hours on this game, I kid you not.
