Depends. If they have to court advertisers it would affect the (perceived) impartiality of Wikipedia. If there's an ad for Coca-Cola on the page for Coca-cola, do you trust the article to tell the truth about Coca-Cola? How do you know what's sponsored by Coca-Cola and what's not?

Are you aware that as it is, the information is frequently put up by the same people who would place advertisements on Wikipedia? I dont know whether Coca-Cola wrote whatever it says about them on the Coca-Cola Wikipedia page, but I can confirm this is frequently done by other companies (and famous people often edit their own page too, for the same reason).

Though those college students quickly learn not to. I haven't used Wikipedia since starting Uni :L.

Does your university provide free access to its index for everyone in the world that has an internet connection?

Yes, again. :-P I love that Wikipedia is free to all, but the people who can afford to should at least consider donating.

Be a bro, donate to your favourite website that has saved your ass multiple times when you've been late doing that assignment.
For your records: Your donation on 2012-11-15 was NOK 230.00. (=30€)
