This is the win on SG that I've played the most - hopefully somebody else will enjoy it!
By coincidence these giveaways end on my birthday - I'll try and hand the games out before I go for a sophisticated weekend break in the big city (pub crawl round Shrewsbury) otherwise the winners may need to wait a while for their games because I'll likely be busy celebrating in an extremely classy manner.

I've been interested in this game, despite the bad reviews. Does it need the expansion, or did you have fun with the base game?

I'm a big Civ fan and I enjoyed the base game but I can see why it drew a lot of criticism. Other than appearance there wasn't much to differentiate it from basic Civ 5 and there were broken promises with regards to it's ability to interact with Starships - a lot of people would have found it all a bit underwhelming for a new full priced title.
The Rising Tide DLC was very good and added a lot of unique stuff to the game that really made it feel like something more than a Civ 5 re-skin. It was still a title that felt like it could do with another major expansion but that it was abandoned early.

Would you recommend it to someone who already has Civ 5 (along with Brave New World and Gods and Kings)? Or am I better off just playing Civ 5?

If you like Civ 5 you will like Beyond Earth - I think most people just felt on release that it felt like a fancy mod rather than a full price game. If you are planning on getting the DLC I'd certainly recommend it as it becomes something really interesting and different to standard Civ 5. For the price both are available in the current Aspyr pick and mix bundle I'd certainly say most Civ fans would easily get value for money.

Thanks for the info, that makes sense.
If only there was a third game that I wanted in that bundle selection... And while $13 is undoubtedly a good deal for Civ BE and Rising Tide, that's more than I can let myself spend at the moment.
