Animu souls sounds about right.

As someone who only recently managed to scramble enough willpower to actually sit down and play Divine Divinity (the 2002 one) to the end, I can empathise. Damn, I actually quite enjoyed it in the end.

Don't worry, a lot of people enter giveaways with their phone, I don't know how they are able to solve puzzles but whatever works... :) Hopefully you can get enough internet to download it if you win! :)

Think I'd only feel bad if someone knew they would never be able to play a game, ever. Like trying to win https://store.steampowered.com/app/221680/Rocksmith_2014_Edition__Remastered/ when they don't own a guitar. :) Or trying to win https://store.steampowered.com/app/611670/The_Elder_Scrolls_V_Skyrim_VR/ and https://store.steampowered.com/app/611660/Fallout_4_VR/ with no VR setup. :)

Maybe in that sort of situation I'd be happier if someone didn't rush to fill their Steam library with a collection of shiny toys they could never touch... :)

But as long as someone could play the game they win, I don't care when they do it, or even if they do it. :) Most people around here have such a large backlog they could spend years trying to play all their won games... :)

Good luck! :)

Did you buy much in this sale? I bought way more than I planned to, and I'm still going. sigh

Oh, more than I planned, definitely... Seems I'd alternate days between a dumpster full of cheap garbage and real games which may also be garbage... : )

Hahaha. It's sad. I look through my games library on Steam and see all these "4 hours played" and think, "But I didn't play that!" sigh

I notice you've been in the lead most days amongst my Steam friends. I think that means you've converted more "boost points" to tokens. But who knows. The whole sale event has been rather broken!

Like you I've alternated between "garbage" and real games. I just keep getting worried that the real games will be bundled before I can play them. I think it's giving me a stomach ulcer!

Edit: Oh, I just discovered this one was already on my wishlist, too. Extra thanks! :)

Hmmm, did you ever refund any stuff on Steam? Somewhere I read that if you get a refund, your cards won't start dropping until after two hours have elapsed... But somehow Steam auto-refunded a couple failed purchases last week, and it didn't seem to change anything. I wonder if the Steam Sale looked like fraud to some Paypal machine-learning thing... :)

Hmm, I had a lot of leftover points from the Lunar New Year thing, but haven't been keeping track... And I really don't want to know how this would look if I'd purchased everything on the first day... :)

Woohoo, wishlist giveaways, extra good luck! :)

Hahaha. You could have bought lots of vouchers for money off games instead, you know! That's what I've been doing. (Or rather, that's what I would have been doing if the Grand Prix event weren't so broken. I think I've missed out on a lot of tokens that I should have received. :( )

I have made a few refunds, but the trading card stuff makes no sense. I bought the Hentai Girl series (I know, I know, but that's not quite as embarrassing as spending over $40 on Senran Kagura outfit DLC, is it? Oh dear. I think I just owned up to both! :-/ ) early in the sale and earned all trading cards from all games within about an hour for each one, yet other games take upwards of five hours to drop them all. I'm not too concerned. I used to idle them manually until I finally got the guts to try ASF, and it's been telling me for the last 18 months that I have between two and four months left of estimated idle time. :D

To be fair, my wishlist does contain almost 2000 items. But this is a real one. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh, I've been getting lots of vouchers now, since there's nothing left in the gift shop... :( But I think if you're spending enough in the store to get a $5 voucher, do you really need one? :)

Here's a coupon good for 3% off your next $150 purchase. Wow! :) Think I'd rather have higher levels on that badge, to make up for all the
free summer sale trading cards I didn't get... :)

Hmm, aside from "all the Train Simulator DLC" I think the only thing I'd be embarrassed to have in my Steam library would be https://store.steampowered.com/app/537770/GalGun_Double_Peace__Pheromone_Z_Item/ :) Sorry, think I'll pass on that one... :)

One good thing about ASF is once you get it configured correctly you don't need to do anything with it, just let it run. If you're a badge junkie you can even set it up to handle trades for you, to help complete badges. I don't have to look at trade offers now, if it's a fair trade ASF will accept all by itself. There's also an automatic trade-finding mode which works like STM, but during this sale it's been pretty useless. :( I assume Steam servers are overloaded so inventories are not showing up, etc. Oh well. :)

Maybe I should get one of these for myself, but I'll probably wait until the "grand prix" nonsense is over, just in case I get lucky... :) Or, maybe I should try playing God Eater first, since apparently if it's by the same people... Dunno if there are any boobies in that game, though... :(

I always used to sell the trading cards immediately, but at a rate of 0.04 - 0.1 profit from each one per $10 spend, the vouchers actually work out better value (assuming one receives the points / tokens that one is supposed to receive, which hasn't been the case for me in this sale).

I was disappointed that badge-making didn't net me any cards, though; I don't normally bother with badges, but somehow I'd ended up with 16 complete sets at the start of this sale. Out of that lot in this sale I got the same crappy discount coupons for the same few crappy games. sigh

Edit: Oh, and the explore queue cards! I really missed those this sale. The only time I ever used to look at my explore queue was when it gave me cards. :(

Hahaha. Gal*Gun Double Peace was one of the games I finally bought in this sale, but not any DLC. I did briefly wonder who would buy the Pheromone Z Item. :D

ASF seems to work well most of the time. I wish I could tell it to idle in decreasing card set value order, though. In any case, tt's definitely easier than the manual idling I was doing before. But I only run it while I'm also doing something else on one of my computers -- I don't have any left on all the time -- and at least a couple of hours a day that "something else" is playing games anyway, so each full day of idling for me takes between about four days and a week. It's not really that surprising it's taking so long to get through the backlog. (At least it's doing a better job than I am at playing them! :D )

I got excited about monster hunting games so bought Toukiden 1 + 2 + mission DLC in this sale. I'm considering God Eater 3, as well, but since I already have 2 and haven't played it yet, I should probably hold off until I've finished that lot. sigh Too many games and not enough time!

Yeah, I don't bother making badges when the reward is coupons. :) Had about 3000 sets ready for the sale, and... Nope. :( So now I'll wait six more months and hope for better in the Winter Sale... :) If there's no Winter Sale cards I'm going to cry... :(

Oh, right, I forgot about the free queue cards. :( Hmm...

You know, I think there's a pattern here... New "temporarily free" games won't drop trading cards. Lunar New Year rewards weren't tradable, or marketable, and couldn't be turned into gems. Summer Sale gives no free stuff from exploring the queue, and no Summer Sale trading cards at all...

Seems like Valve are working on their anti-bot strategy. Not to ban them, or punish the people using them, but to make them unprofitable. Used to be that owning bots during the big sales = free money. A few bots = a little free money, a lot of bots = a lot of free money. But now, what are they worth? What's the point of connecting a million bots to Steam if you're just wasting electricity?

Hope I'm wrong, or I'll never be able to craft these badges... :)

I don't think ASF will ever let you choose to idle based on a set's market value, but maybe there's some other heuristic you could use? Dunno, I only sell my foil cards or surplus cards beyond the "level 5" badge...

I suppose if you're intending to sell all our cards you'd want to idle brand new non-bundle games first, and you'd probably want to use whatever the mystery glitch is to get your drops faster. But I think you have to do that manually, which kinda defeats the whole purpose of automating it... :)

Most of the benefit I get from ASF is due to it running 24/7. I think some people use a free AWS thing so they can turn off their pc at night, but I dunno any details... Doesn't sound like too much trouble, but I'm pretty lazy... :)

Hmm, I thought Monster Hunter: World was fun, got bored though. Felt like a treadmill, fight these things, so you can fight these things, so you can fight these things, so you can fight these things... :) Sorry, been there, done that. :)

Ahh, I just bought God Eater 3, but I didn't try playing it yet. :( Maybe I should at least run the thing, see what I'm missing... :) Oh, hmm, I have the other ones too... Oh, wow, looks like I actually got a few achievements in "God Eater Resurrection" - don't even remember installing it...

Hmm, you're probably right about the bots. I only ever run one "bot" -- ASF -- and I only have one account, so I never thought about the potential profitz from running a "Steam botnet". Probably I missed out. It seems kinda "wrong" in some way anyway, so it's probably for the best. Just a shame if they've ruined it for the rest of us I suppose.

Personally I think we've probably seen the last of the Steam sale cards as a regular thing. It's possible they'll come back as a special occasion for a sale, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are no more.

I never thought of putting ASF "in the cloud" before either. Again, since it's only my one account it seemed like too much hassle, but maybe I should look into it. I've not used AWS, but I think one can get free Azure VMs somehow as well and I've used that before. sigh I'd rather just play games.

Yes, I've read that about Monster Hunter World, too. I was really pumped to finally see a Monster Hunter game coming to PC (not that I've played any others, though I think I bought "Monster Hunter Tri" or something like that on the WII from a bargain bin and never got around to playing it), but when I read about it it sounded like a big repetitive time sink. Like a lot of games, I guess, but somehow less rewarding. I'd still be really happy if it turns up in the monthlies.

I have Nioh on my shortlist for this sale, too, but haven't bought it yet. Have you played that one? It's apparently "Souls like" (I hate that term).

Hmm...

I think back when every game got trading cards, there were people buying game keys in bulk, 1-2 cents each, and idling on hundreds of different accounts...

In first-world terms it's not a lot of money, so I dunno... You'd be getting free +1s, maybe break even on the cards... But somewhere with a crap economy, I bet "not a lot of money * hundreds of games * hundreds of accounts = actual money"... :) But you're right, that ship has sailed... :)

I get the impression Monster Hunter is just super grindy by design, but for people who like the grindy stuff it's probably not a negative... :)

Nioh, hmm, yes I have played a fair bit... The action did feel Soulsy but...

Nioh is also super Diablo/Borderlandy, with the mountain of randomised loot drops, stats and numbers and builds and systems, ugh...

I don't actually remember anything about the story. :( Demons or something? Dunno...

The action stuff was fun, but there's just so many different things going on in the game. I think they could have completely eliminated half of them without hurting anything. :)

If you like comparing all the numbers on your loot, hmm, do I keep this, well, that's going to be good if I get something with this other thing, but right now it's worse, so I guess I'll just hold on to it for now... Well, go for it, there's a lot of that. :)

Oh, thank you for the feedback on Nioh. It sounds like something I'd like. I'm a sucker for random loot drops, as long as there's a lot of variation. I always feel as though I've wasted a whole lot of time after spending hours comparing inventory items, but somehow I can't help myself! :D

That can be my purchase for tomorrow. After splurging too much at the start I'm trying to keep myself to only one game a day now. Though since I still have 13 items on my shortlist, something's gotta give! :)

I noticed you've been playing God Eater 3 a bit. Is it good!?

I didn't end up buying it. I managed to hold off to at least give myself a bit more time to play God Eater 2 first. :D

But then Let it Die had a special "5 million downloads" month and I've spent all my limited free time playing that instead. sigh

Typical: I spend hundreds of dollars in the Steam sale and then spend all my time playing a F2P game instead.

At least Rin Torai is a bit of welcome eye candy:

(Edit: Not sure why she doesn't show up, but the link works anyway. sigh )

Hmm...

I tried a bit of the first God Eater game on Steam, before I knew what it was. Kinda got bored and gave up. :( Some time later I played Monster Hunter: World, and some time after that I noticed God Eater 3's store page. All the reviews were comparing it to Monster Hunter, so I was ohhhhh, now I get it. :)

I'm not sure yet if I'd call God Eater 3 good, but if you've played Monster Hunter it's one of those. :) There's some sort of story but I haven't seen all of it yet so I dunno how important it is. :)

There's monsters, you select a few of your NPC crew and go fight. Try to hit the different monster parts, get drops, go back to base, talk to people, buy stuff, make stuff, etc. Then go back out and fight a different monster. No cat people.

I'd say the monster fighting in God Eater isn't better or worse than in Monster Hunter. If you like one, you'd probably like the other. If you got bored with one, save your money cause it's gonna be more of the same... :)

Monster Hunter: World had more interesting areas to run around in, and you could just explore doing whatever if you felt like it. God Eater 3 is kinda empty aside from the monsters roaming around. There doesn't seem to be any way to just wander around, and there'd be nothing to do if you could.

Oh, there's also playing dress-up with your character, just got a blueprint for the "童貞を殺すセーター" if that means anything... :)

Hmmm, I've never played Let it Die, but I've seen that character in the trading card https://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/753/794600-Elevator%20Girl :) Maybe I'll make all those badges in the Winter Sale... :)

Hope that helps a little... :)

Hahaha. Thank you for the mini-review!

I still don't have Monster Hunter World. I keep expecting it in a Humble Monthly or new Capcom bundle, so I haven't picked it up yet. I also understand that it's a grindy time-sink, and since time is a premium resource in my life it's even harder to justify a purchase, especially given all the other games I still have to play. I have Monster Hunter Tri (unopened -- sigh) on the Wii, and you may recall I was going to buy Toukiden and Toukiden 2 in the last sale, which I did (double sigh). Now I'm out of SSD / HD space on my gaming laptop, so I'll have to finish playing something else first. :D

Let it Die is an excellent example of two things: 1) Grasshopper Manufacture's (Suda51's) absolutely insane imagination, and 2) the quintessential F2P model.

As an example of the first, the game starts off with Death riding a skateboard, setting you up in a disused railway station on the Tokyo Metro. It just gets weirder from there.

As for the second, it balances free grind against premium currency and other purchasable components better than most (all?) other F2P games I've seen. The core game is a third-person action game with procedural generation, with multiple tiers of player characters, each of which can be levelled up as you play; weapons and armor, which can all be researched and upgraded through levels and tiers, using different tiers of materials / resources; and asynchronous PVP, which saps your free currency away whenever you're not actively participating (or sitting in the waiting room, idling the game) -- unless of course you've activated the premium pass for that day / month, in which case you don't lose anything.

It's very well made, very repetitive, and highly addictive. :(

Edit: Here's an interesting (if slightly factually incorrect) post from someone who's finished it: https://stackup.org/let-die-not-play-game/

Though I'm enjoying it, I think I might have to call it quits soon. I'm never going to finish it!

I wonder if Monster Hunter: World isn't too popular to hit a bundle yet... I know indie developers always say to delay a bundle appearance, since it's pretty much the end of selling any more copies on Steam...

Maybe "big games" can get away with it, though? Someone might see all their friends playing and decide a 50% discount looks pretty good, not knowing they all got it in a cheap bundle... :) I dunno...

Hmm... I vaguely remember not buying Toukiden 2 myself, which was probably the correct choice since I never even installed the first one... :( So many games, so little time... :(

Thank you for the Let It Die info! :) All I knew about that game was free-to-play, and I only knew that because I got up to the letter "R" crafting free-to-play booster packs to "level 5" before running out of gems. :( Spoiler alert: I didn't craft a single badge in the Summer Sale, currently saving all my cards for the Winter Sale... :( Don't fail me now, Winter Sale bagde! :)

Hope you call it quits soon, unless you're having fun playing it of course... :) But it sounds like the sort of game where it is playing you... :)

Yes, you may be right about MH:W and bundles, though I'm in no hurry. If you're interested, here's an article I wrote about that sort of thing a few months ago: https://saveorquit.com/2019/04/13/article-genkipro-on-game-addiction-and-the-dangers-of-bundles/ . Nothing revolutionary in there, I'm afraid; mainly just an "I'm an addict" article that talks about how bundles are a bad idea for publishers and developers. :)

I forced myself to uninstall Let it Die. I was actually still having a lot of fun with it, but I have so many other games that I've bought and want to play that I can't justify spending the time it will take to try to finish that one. I might get back to it at some stage, I suppose, but I want to burn through some of my backlog first. It is definitely a game that plays the player! :D

Hmmm, honestly it's not as much fun as it would have been if I'd kept playing 20 years ago... :)

It's just soooooo huge, and I fell into the trap of wanting to see various side things and new characters, so I looked up a bunch of crap on the internet, which told me where to go for all these side-quests and stuff I never would have discovered on my own... With infinite time I could just play through the first time blind, and then look things up for the second time through... But if I tried that I'd probably get stuck in a battle I can't figure out how to win, and just give up. :)

So, it's still a great game, but it would have been even more great if I had said ehh, when I can't figure it out, screw it. :)

Now, Baldur's Gate 1... That game I actually finished, but maybe I could remember more D&D stuff back then... :) Or maybe I had more free time, or more patience for figuring stuff out... :)

There are boobies indeed, and it does have the most impressive character customization I've seen in any game so far, but that's about all the positives I've seen personally... :)

Thanks, but I stopped joining giveaways like half a year ago - I mostly solved the "puzzle" to see the giveaway/question you usually leave in the description alas there wasn't one this time :(

Sorry... I was trying to play Baldur's Gate 2 this time, didn't want to get distracted talking on Steamgifts, but here I am, as usual... :)

Hopefully there will be a question in the next one! :)

Some evil, evil person tripped me up... Figured there was a chance the comments in the videos had something to do with it (not good with these puzzles) and someone commented this just recently..
I spent a good 20 minutes trying to figure out what OM413 could mean. >:(

Interesting! :) Have you tried the first game, or did you jump right in to the second? Hopefully it's not too confusing if you did... :)

Good luck! :)

I tried the first game three times, but couldn't get into it. A friend told me to just play the second one. It gives the player explanations as to what happened in the original. The most confusing part is the AD&D rules, honestly.

Sounds like D&D is a lot simpler nowadays, guess I will know for sure when Baldur's Gate 3 comes out... :)

Sometimes I get the temptation to make a giveaway for that Skyrim VR game, but then I'd probably want to restrict it to people who own some VR setup and could play... :) So then I say screw it. :) Let them buy their own VR games... :)

Good luck! :)

Haha yeah I don't think they need anyone to buy them games. I heard good things about it in VR though but I have never met a VR game that didn't make me sicker than Tequila so I wouldn't even try it.

I got to say that I wouldn't be able to get it without your hints of the zelph guide and I feel bad for that :(
never thought of using hex language. I tried searching for something yesterday but I guess I couldn't figure out my words in english hahahah. Tried searching for "list of codes language" or "hidden secret languages" but wasn't finding anything :p
Anyway, thanks for ANOTHER awesome GA! :)
Now i've got to decypher the other one :p

Well, I do this sort of "puzzle" all the time, so people who have seen it before have a big advantage... It's easy if you have seen it before, otherwise I suppose it's impossible... Good you found it in time! :)

Good luck! :)

Hmm, I never played any of those games, did put https://store.steampowered.com/app/1097840/Gears_5/ on my wishlist though, so I can see what it's all about... :)

And I only played about ten hours of https://store.steampowered.com/app/412020/Metro_Exodus/ before I forgot about it... :( Seemed fun, but I'll probably wait for an upgrade to try again... :)

Well, if you win this you're stuck waiting a couple months, so be sure to play something else in the meantime... :)

Good luck! :)
